The FAST key system, with the keyless entry (the one where you just walk up to it and open the door) has very poor distance when something's plugged into the outlet under the AC controls. You mentioned you sometimes have to touch the door handle? The FAST keyless system ONLY works when you hold the door handle and touch the inside of it.

When you press the button to unlock the doors on your key fob, the distance is very good without something plugged into the outlet but with something in the outlet, it becomes very poor, less than 7ft.

Whatever you have plugged in might be causing RF interference, but something else still doesn't make sense. The outlet under the AC controls is OFF (unpowered) when the car is off, which is usually the only time when you need to lock-unlock the car. Which means that unless there's a short somewhere, whatever's plugged into the outlet when you do need to use the FAST key, is essentially passive.
What you said xi is correct. The fast key only works when you touch the door handle and his keyless remote range is less with something plugged into the acc. outlets than if nothing is plugged in. I know the acc. outlet in front of the shifter is not active once the ignition is turned off. However, the one inside the console is still hot with the ignition off. The acc. outlet in the console is where I think his problem lies. I was kind of suprised Mitsubishi would leave the acc. outlet in the console hot after the ignition is turned off but they did. I found this out when my son left his DVD player plugged in and playing all night after we got out of the car. That's a good way to drain the battery.

The outlet below the AC does turn off when the car is off but the issue I am having is when something is plugged into the outlet in the center underneath the arm rest. Let me re-describe the issue I am currently having.
First things first...... There are two ways of entry on the RA 09... There is the Fast Key system and the Keyless system. When I have ANY device plugged into the outlet located under the armrest I have a hard time using the Fast Key system and the Keyless entry range is drastically reduced. It almost seems the Fast Key and Keyless entry are on the same circuit as the power under the armrest. The dealer I took it to said any device I have plugged into the power outlet created a radio frequency and cancels out all radio function of Fast Key & Keyless entry. Not I know I could not use my power outlet in my car but what is the point then? Also something I noticed as of yesterday my car will NOT start unless the Keys to my car are in visible site if anything is plugged into my power outlet.

Anyone have ANY ideas? The dealer wont help so what the heck should I do?

^ I would start with process of elimination at this point. If you have the same device consistantly plugged into the center console acc. outlet replace it with another device to see if the problem still persists. Example: If you have your Ipod plugged into the center console, remove it and place it with a cell phone charger and see if you have the same problem. If the problem goes away with the cell phone charger plugged in the center console instead of your Ipod, it may be that your Ipod truly does create some possible RF interferance. It's unlikely due to FCC regulations but is not entirely out of the relm of possability. The other thing you could do if you have a multi-meter is see what the load is on the console acc.output circuit with your Ipod or cell charger plugged in. I would try my first suggestion though and see if the problem follows a certain device.

Back to the dealer, we will see what they find. Now the system doesn't want to work in the rain.

Jeez man, you just keep getting weird stuff happening to your RA! If it gets worse than it is now, I'd pull a lemon law...

If I have my fast key on the same side as my phone I have problems with it. I now keep my key in the same pocket as my wallet (other side of pants) and have no problem what so ever. I'd try that first. GPS, mobiles, radios, all trasmit waves that interfer with the key

Just as a side thought, the device plugged into the Aux outlet is not a RF type device is it?

Also, just for the time being keep that item unplugged for a few days and see if the range is much better, or other person said swap items.

Another thought, do you carry another remote in your key chain say from another car?

I had this issue with a honday factory keyless/alarm, and I had another alarm and the other alarm would make the honda system lose programming.
