Topend, what!?!

I headed to the track with a couple of buddies with evo'x, lexus, and a lancer gts
just for fun.

I already knew what I was capable of with a good launch (mid 13's)
and I haven't put on anything new since my last trip to the track. So I decided to baby my car this time around. and test out more of my topend.

First up was a 05-06ish Wrx. (not too sure of the mods) not stock for sure.
lucky me.

we staged,
I rev'd to about 1.5k
this light turns green, I floor it.
the WRX takes off quickkk..had a good launch.
My boost begins to build up, come half way mark, I am pulling quickly on his ***.
I eat him up at about the 1000th mark. and it's history from there.

I ran 14.4 at 98 with a baby *** launch. my 60ft 2.5
he ran 14.8 at 93 with a good launch. his 60ft 2.0

hehe..next up..

05-06ish wrx STI...(again unsure of the mods) exterior looked stocked, but there still couldabeen somthing under.
lucky me

he pulls in the line to race.
I hop in my car as quick as I can to race him, right as I do the wrx I just spanked pulls next to him before I do.
I hop outta my car walk to his window and call him out for a race." Hey, do you wanna run?, My car is that Ralliart right behind you." He responds with "Sure, I'll run you".

JAckpot.

The WRX backs off and I pull next to him.

we line up. and I decide to baby my launch again, to test out my topend again.

staged.
I rev to about 1.8k
I hear his car screamming waiting for the green light.
Light goes green.
he takes off like a bat out of hell.
It felt as tho I wasnt even moving, thats how good his launch was.
My b00st builds up, I start pulling and I eat him just after the 1/8 mark.
He still trailing about a half car behind me, but I take him out in the 1/4 mile.

I ran a 14.29 @ 98 with a 60ft of 2.4
he run a 14.3 @99 with a 60ft of 1.8

to his excuse and defense, maybe a missed gear?
still not bad tho.

done. game over. good night

for those who fail to believe what a good tune can do to these RA's, eat your heart out.
I already ran my 13.5 with a 60ft of 1.9. no need to put more stress on the tranny.

thanks AMS.

sidenote: I let my wife run the car for the first time. she ran a 14.6 with just flooring it. no launch at all. lol

1. my car never just had a tune, i bought a bunch of stuff at once.

2. where i live is the last place to me running at the track. Lastnight i went out there infact for street legals to watch, and got curious about the air altitude, i checked it on the blackberry, 6281 ft air altitude, explain how thats good for anything..

I will later this fall or early spring make a trip to the coast and run at sealevel so i can see some legitimate numbers.

1. your one, doesnt make sense, you can still run it. and like i stated, even with your mods i would like to see a slip.
2. San Antonio's sea level is at 700 with 105+ degree weather. explain how that is good for turbo.

pretty much sounds like excuses to me.

700 feet?

im at 4400 and lastnight was 93*F

anyways im not knocking your performance for what you have, im simply saying, 98 mph isnt that high in the grand scheme of things.

lol, u guys are funny . Weather this summer is not good for racing no matter what the altitude.

No matter the altitude, can't you take your timeslip and plug the details (altitude, temp, etc) and get a standardized #?

I thought turbocharged/intercooled cars created their own atmosphere in the intake system, so the altitude wouldn't affect the performance as much as say a N/A 2.0...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand, isn't the boost psi added onto the atmospheric psi? While N/A cars are limited to the atmospheric psi...So being closer to sea level will still have its benefits, it won't be the make or break a turbo car's performance, correct?

^^^I have absolutely No idea..
but i would expect you are correct.

If air density is Much lower due to higher altitude. it just makes the turbo either work just a bit harder or there is just a bit more lag although its going to be soo miniscule, before its able to spool up enough boost to match that of where the air is more dense.

there is less oxygen at higher altitudes, thus even running at peak performance the car will invevitably make less power and run a richer fuel mixture, it can be adjusted but since there is less available oxygen - peak power will be less. Timeslips can be corrected though, so I don't know what the fuzz if all about

your time is what you run that day.
but if you wanna do that whole equation blah blah.

13.298 @ 99.477 MPH

would be my corrected time.

but I claim 13.5 @ 98mph
without the whole equation.

well if you take the claim that your time is what you run that day no matter what, then I can definitely see what the fuzz is all about, racetracks should give you both times on the slip to avoid this
