Got a warning light in my car tonight. Checked the manual.. It's the timing belt warning light? What's that mean????

It means that you either need to have the light reset or actually change the timing belt and/or adjust your belt tension-er. 38,000 miles seems way early for such a service to be needed, though. However, I would go back and check your manual again to see if you are coming up on needing that done. If you are and do need to replace your timing belt, you are SOL.

Exactly 38000 miles and it's saying it's worn? No way. This should be at like 75000-100000.

Timing chains usually go 100k with ease. Is it a service engine light?

It was a triangle with a explanation point in the middle of it with the words "check" underneath it. In the manual that exact light is the last one pictured.. And it says "timing belt may be worn" and that's it. I was like r u f-ing kidding me.. It came on while having it in park in a parking lot

Go get your codes read at a dealership or elsewhere. Anywhere with an OBD-II scanner can do it. I doubt that your belt would be worn this early on. That is highly unusual. I would be surprised if that actually turned out to be the problem, but hey, you never know.

The one in my Eclipse had to be changed at 65,000 miles. Even so, this is still way early.

^4B11t has no timing belt. Isn't this one of mitsu's first engines to use a timing chain instead of a belt? I got a little confused here, haha.

As stated before, go get your codes read. Any autozone/murray's/advanced auto should be able to do it for free, or hop in the dealer and ask for your codes read. Keep us updated!

I don't know the answer to that question. My other Mitsubishi has a timing belt, so that is why I assumed that this one did as well. If it in fact uses a timing chain, I do apologize. My mistake.

4b11 uses a timing chain. if the light is coming up this early, its probably a tensioner issue if anything. is there more knocking/clicking coming from the front pulley area of the engine than normal? pull the code...

yeah timing chains are designed to go 100k plus,, i would say its some tensioner.. Did you ever figured out what that was?

You should get your timing chain check and or tensionner, It means that the chain has either streched over 0.06mm or that your tensionner has lossen and the chain is loose a little..

Here is a link to a video explaining the timing chain light on evo and ralliart.

You are correct. I took it to the dealership. They came back saying it has a chain not a belt. The chain was almost completely off they said.. It was streched more then it should have in just 38000 miles.. Ordered the part said they would have it done tomorrow.. Right now I'm driving a rental... Toyota prius ha

^Damn. Tough luck! Was it covered under warranty? That's crazy for the chain to be stretching that much at 38k...

Sorry to hear you're in a Prius, .
