It sucks, but that's what they'll do to save a bit of weight and money.

Is the brake pedal the same as well? It seems like a liability considering how important these both are.

The pedal has a breaking point from the factory especially designed for it to break in case of an accident so that your foot/legs are smashed, so it is a safety issue. It breaking during a collision also would prevent the pedal from being pressed in while you might be knocked out and having your foot all the way down, so your car doesn't keep dragging/accelerating/moving in general.

ive seen this issue on other Evo X owner.. i mean, if it ever breaks... it should be cover under warranty ..
I can see an issue if the BRAKE pedal breaks (where you cannot stop) .. but Gas pedal, the worst is no more gas + tow =P

I don't buy that argument.
Some things are just cheap, and that's one of em.
I wouldn't want a pedal with a possibly sharp shaft flying around in an accident...

this is why some of the new cars, when in an accident, they will cutoff the engine, unlock the doors, etc

what if you swap out the pedals for some steel ones. would that void a warranty? if so what kind of warranty would be voided?
