OEM Upgrades
OEM Upgrades
I have had my 09 Ralliart for about a month now and am looking to step up the interior a little. Here is what I am thinking up upgrading, why I am leaning towards OEM, and some questions I have. Any advice would be appreciated. If you think aftermarket is a beater way to go please let me know. I have done a good amount of reading but asking directly is usually the best way.
Recaro / leather seats (preferably heated) – OEM to keep all airbags intact and functional – No questions plenty of discussion on this already.
Head unit Nav or Rockford – OEM to keep the steering wheel controls (including Bluetooth) and a clean look. – All of the wiring harnesses are the same so it should be mostly plug and play, correct? Can the Nav head unit support the Rockord amp/sub.
Thanks in advance

I saw a set of the leather recaros once. They went for two grand (which, mind you, is probably a good deal). If you go aftermarket for your headunit, you *may* be able to get the steering wheel controls to integrate properly. Maybe not. Also, it's fairly expensive to find a good bezel. The Metra and Scosche kits, well, they almost fit. The oem and/or jdm bezel generally goes for $300+. Worth it? I think so.
Oh ok nice. Is the "Rockford" system the same head unit as the regular it is just run thrugh the amp and has the sub?
I didnt mean leather recaros. I ment recoaros or regular leather.

The Rockford system is an amp under the drivers seat that boosts the head unit's output. The head units are the same whether you have RF or not. I tried to install that system, but it requires a completely different wiring harness, therefore making the "upgrade" impossible. You are better off to go aftermarket for the amplifiers and speakers. You can still use the OEM head units with the aftermarket amp to retain all your steering controls, as well as the clean look. This will essentiall function 100% identical to the RF system, but probably give you better audio quality.
To post-purchase install the OEM Navi, you need the nav unit, a dash bezel, a specific wiring adapter, and the GPS unit/mount. It costs a lot, but it is easy enough to be done.

You can also use the navigation system from a regular Lancer or Endeavor. I am not sure about the Outlander. They all utilize the factory wiring harness. Your dashboard even comes pre-drilled for the factory navigation antenna.
Wait is it possible to add on Navi to a base RA (non Recaro's/RF/HID's etc)? If so then yes, I suppose you can have Navi w/o RF.

They couldnt pull the part number from the kit without ordering it??? I havent had to go back to the dealer for parts but I had a cobalt and need a factory part, they looked it up and you had to buy a kit but they gave me all the part numbers. Then i went to another place to order just that part.
