Is this too much shaft play?
Is this too much shaft play?
The compressor wheel does not hit the walls. The noise you hear seems to be the residual oil inside the centerpiece. But I just wanted a general consensus from everyone. If it is too much ill just send it into FP for a green upgrade anyway.
thanks guys.
Edit: I read that because there is no oil in the turbo as of now that a small portion of this play would disappear once it is installed and oil is flowing through it once again. And that there must be at least a very small minimum amount of axial play (.5-1.5mm) to allow the oil film to seep in. Correct me if Im wrong.

its hard to really tell from that video, but it seems ok. i would pay attention to the tips of the fins. if they look discolored like they were knicking the wall of the housing, then its rebuild time. actually a better tell would be marks on the housing wall. but yes the turbo is designed to have some some shaft play. ill come by one day to take a look in person.
