Looking for some advice I drive a 2009 Ralliart and my gas gauge seems to be fluctuating which is very strange.....any ideas? Is this a know problem? Should I have the dealer look at it?

Thanks for any help

How often is it fluctuating? Be specific.

Parked overnight up hill - it reads much lower the next time you turn the key on (due to the sensor pick up location) and of course the opposite effect if pointed downhill....

Driving on the hwy on level ground or with temporary inclines it should not fluctuate. The signal is damped so every hill doesn't immediately affect the level (and range/consumption calculations)...

I have seen it go up and down on mine as well. I almost think at times related to how's driven... all the other calculations (I.e. distance) also change ...

I've had this happen to me--for example, ending my highway commute home with a bar being one section fuller than it was in the middle of the drive. Although it isn't a constant fluctuation and doesn't happen all the time, it's been that way as long as I've had the car so I never thought much of it.

ofcourse range (distance to empty ) will vary quite a bit. It relies on tank fuel level and MPG (which resets after a long shutdown and until it gets back to 'normal' will show a shorter range. Also, how oyu drive will affect MPG (and range as well). And (like i said above) how you park (uphill or downhill) will affect the sensor... Lastly, the gradients for the bars are not 'precise' so a little change when near a trigger for another bar will cause some wobbling until the gradient is mid-point/well established...

So, unless it changes by more than one bar back and forth while driving on level ground - it is fine.

Me? I keep range as my primary indicator... After i have been driving for a bit because i usually park on a hill at home...

Seems like mine changes every time i start the damn thing lol. It has a mind of its own. Doesnt help that i tend to have a lead foot most of the time when i drive this car. I just be sure to fill up when im around the 1/4-1/8 of a tank area and everything is good. Matter of fact, my car tells me i have around 180 miles to empty when i fill up. Sucks having a heavy foot. Just cant help it, shes a fun car. At least its not my DD! Then i would be screwed at the pump quite often.
