Weird knocking noise.

Im new to this site and i have a problem.

I have a 2011 Ralliart and my problem is when i accelerate from first gear to second, i hear a knocking sound. Its usually just one loud knock that sounds like it comes from the front driverside wheel region. The sound also sometimes happens when i first turn my car on and still comes from the same area. I had a mechanic check it out, and he said it was the transfer case. I got the car about a year ago, and it started making the noise about 3 months into my ownership. The dealer i bought the car from said the transmission had a hairline crack so they replaced it with a 2013 evo mr transmission. Ever since i first started hearing the noise it gradually became more frequent and louder. Any help is greatly appreciated.

i had a knocking noise on my genesis, was driving me crazy it was coming from the right rear, turned out the be loose lug nuts, overtime i would accelerate it would try to give and the bolts would hold the tire in lol. you should check that just incase, i know it sounds dumb, and if it was, free stuff from your dealership for life

off the top of my head, the order i'd follow:

1. lug nuts
2. axle nut
3. engine and trans mounts
4. bolts holding trans to engine

if it happens during acceleration and turning, i'd first guess something suspension-related. i'd focus on that corner of the car too. my first instinct would be the axle nut.

anyway, hope you find the problem. good luck.

when you start the car without it moving? that would be a 100% different situation than what i was thinking...i missed that part of your OP.
without being there, i'm not sure what to guess on that one. i'm blanking on anything that can "knock" at start up unless you have a really bad front motor mount or the cross member it's attached to is loose.

I probably should have mentioned that in my explanation post. Thing is, it doesnt always happen when i start my car. It only happens on occasions. I really want to start modding my car, but i dont want to put more power in it until i figure out and take care of that noise.

I'm having the exact same problem with my 2011 as well.

The noise sounds like a mud flap hitting a tire. The noise happens the most often when I take off from a standing start while turning my wheels. It doesn't do it every time, but it happens the most often when taking off with my car after it's been turned off for a while. Like someone else mentioned, it sounds like its coming from one of my wheel wells.

It also occasionally happens when my car is completely stopped at a red light. I'm really puzzled by it.
