KYB GR2/Excel Owners

I've got the itch to go a lower than my pro kit, but not quite as low as my 2009 Lancer which was dumped on coilovers.

From lurking around I'm thinking Sportline, but I would like to swap struts at the same time but the only real options are Monroe or KYB's.

Has anyone here replaced their tired & worn out struts with KYB's w/ springs? How is it holding up?

Please, no suggestions of coilovers, I do not need the adjustability and the budget I had for my last car. Sportlines & KYB's should run $500 tops

KYB dampers are ok. Tested it on the Lancer for a month. The ride is a bit better of stock. With Aftermarket Springs, the handling still isnt there and planted. KYB is a decent step up. But the effect isn't profound.

I am currently waiting for a new brand of damper for this exact setup (beta testing). But this will will be 5 or 6 step adjustable dampening force. Something that will allow you to get the most out of your lowering springs

I will keep you in the loop.

Koni is not interest in the Mitsubishi Lancer Platform for development as of April 2011 when I last spoke to them.

I begged KYB to go one step further but they felt the aftermarket option released was enough.

Tokico, I did not reach... but I assume it will be the same story.

The damper in development I mentioned is from a different manufacturer.

I tried the KYB Excel/GR2 on my WRX. Compared to the stock stuff, I barely noticed any difference (and that car had 100k on the clock when I swapped). The Excel/GR2 are not designed for lowering springs so you don't get any extra travel or any real benefit at all unless your OE stuff is worn out. Unfortunately, whether you desire adjustability or not, if you want anything other than a stock-like ride coilovers are your only option right now.

until the dampers have left the factory I dont want to jinx it. But I promise to let everyone know as soon as the damper is confirmed on its way.

I checked the KYB site and they only listed the shocks for the front left/right. Where's the rear?

Are the KYBs direct replacement for the stock struts that will fit Sporlines? I have Sportlines but haven't installed them because I don't want to wear out the struts. I planned to sell them and save up for coilovers, but will KYB GR2/Excel allow me to use these springs without having worn out struts?
