External Oil Filter Magnets

I found a website that sells these in 2 different varieties, one with 75lbs pull and one with 125lbs pull.

I did notice that there are Ralliart oil filters out there with magnets built in. However, the external magnets are re-usable and cost much less. It seems like a better alternative.

Does anyone use magnetic filters, internal or external?

What are your thoughts on these? Good idea, bad idea, waste of money?

Here is a link, for reference purposes.http://shopfiltermag.com/cart/ymm.ph...ANCER+DOHC+2.0

While I can't speak from experience, I'm planning to start using them on my RX-8. I've read plenty of good stuff about using magnets on the filters, and even on the oil pan. I would probably just go for the sleeved magnets, but the thought of it coming off unintentionally is kinda scary - which is probably very unlikely anyways.

I asked this question in the oil filter database thread. I never did buy one but I may get a magnetic drain plug like this.

You can get a magnetic drain plug at autozone/advance auto for 2.99 in the universal section. Just get the right thread/pitch.

Sure, but with what kind of magnet?

Expensive drain plugs often have neodymium magnets which are more expensive, but they are stronger.

Anyway, I have a magnet attached to my filter, so I don't feel like buying a magnetic drain plug.
