Check Engine Light

First off, I wanna start by saying HELLOoo!
This is my first post. I've been lurking around these forums for awhile now.. even before I got my Lancer. Lots of helpful stuff on here.

I own a 2009 Ralliart. Got it March '09.
In August the Check Engine Light turns on. The triangle with a big exclamation mark in the center. I checked the owner's manual and says that it may mean my timing chain is worn. I had 10,000km at the time......

It is now almost October
I brought my car in the the dealership several times
The last time replacing my timing chain and oil pump. On the work order it said something about something mis-aligned.
But guess what?? The light turned back on! This is now the 6th time it turned on for no reason. Any other owners having this problem?!?!?

FYI - my Ralliart is bone stock, only thing I did to it is window tint

The car drives great. Just this light keeps turning on for no reason.
Anyone have anything similar happen to them or know what I can do to fix this??
Thanks in advance
-Wes

Well if it is the same thing sounds like you should get a new engine under warranty.

The triangle ! is a general warning light. It shows up any time there is something non-critical that requires the driver attention. Mine I've seen mine show up for TPMS and fuel, as well as the AWC computer going nute (note: turn OFF ASC if you are doing donuts...)

The check engine light is the universal "engine shape". You can only turn that off by clearing the DTC codes.

thats what i thought. so then if he has the triangle with the ! then he should probably check the tire pressure

Go to Autozone and have them read your code, come back and post it; we'll either know what it is or tell you 2 take it to the Dealer and have them read it and deal with the issue.

The triangle has nothing to do with the SES light like you say, the actual Service Engine Light is big and bright and just seeing it there gets anyone upset lol!

Sept.17
Cause: Scanned for codes DTC-P0012
Found Timing and Oil Pump not aligned
Correction: Replaced Timing Chain and Oil Pump Chain

Light turned back on Sept.23

This was code scanned by the tech at my dealership
I'm bringing it back Sept.28 so hopefully I'll get an answer

But yeah it's not TPMS light. It is big **** light in the middle of the display. I have to hold the info button to make it smaller and go to the top right of the screen. I have to do that every time I turn on my car... it doesn't even show the odometer until I do that. GAAAAH!

Well I'll update you guys once I get an answer back from

If they don't get it fixed, file for Lemon law, make them replace the car with a new RA.

Get the local factory reps name and number and tell him/her your story. They will help.

Sounds like your dealership is as bad as mine.

Too bad there are no lemon laws in Canada. There is the Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan, but I don't think it's as good as US lemon laws.

All the work done was covered under warranty. Except the last time they didn't give me a loaner car and I had to pay for a rental. Since my workplace is outside of their shuttle service. I spoke to the general manager so this time I got a rental free of charge.

I ended up going back to the dealership Sept.30 since it was a better time slot..
The mechanic had worked with Mitsubishi Techs to reprogram my car. They did a 150km road test to make sure light didn't come back on. He advised me that IF it comes back on I need to take down RPM, speed, time, temp., road conditions for him to diagnose.

I'm not really comfortable with the answer he had given me. It seems they still don't know what the problem is. I don't think they know what the real cause of the light going on and just reprogrammed it and hope it works. Maybe they solved the problem... if not, I'll end up writing in this thread again

P0012 is "Camshaft position- timing over-retarded"

We had this on a local Evo 10 and it ended up being a bad cam sensor. I swapped another cam sensor on and the CEL never came back so he ended up getting a new cam sensor from the dealer.
