AWC reflash bunk?

So i took my car in for an oil change and some warranty work (AWC reflash) at Northside Mitsu in Edmonton, then drove to fort mcmurray. (450 kms) once i got to town, i found the first snowy corner and kicked the back end out and the AWC service required light came on and now the ASC is turned off. I've fishtailed the car before and never had the service light come on. Has this happened to anyone else?

Did you guys turn your ASC off before doing said donuts? Imagine how much work you're trying to force on the traction control by deliberately sliding and spinning around.

I wasn't doing a donut or anything, just kickin the *** end out, and yes the awc was still on. I've done it before i had the reflash done, and never has a SES light come on. JW what exactly this reflash changed?

Was your car up to operating temp or was it still warming up when this happened?

I had the same thing occur the first time the ASC kicked in after getting the AWC reflash done. Hasn't happened since... there was a thread on this happening to a bunch of people when snow arrived (I assume due to slippery conditions), everyone just turned the car on/off to "remove" the warning light.

I haven't had the problem since (dunno about anyone else). I also mentioned it to my service department when they were doing the airbag sensor replacement and they were clueless (tried to tell me to get the AWC reflash, which I had done 2 months prior).

The flash was to prevent the AWC motor or pump from burning out during cold weather.

I guess I'm going to hold back on getting it since everyone has had problems with it, and I've been driving my stock one at -25C for over a month with no issues.

Strange...

I haven't had the reflash done yet, but I haven't had any problems, either (lots of 0ºF-20ºF weather, too).

the flash actually is just upgrading the programming to allow for a cold weather operation restriction on the pump itself so it does not continue to run the motor and attempt to operate the system in extremely cold temperatures while there may be frozen fluid in the lines. nothing more. sounds like you just got on it a little hard and freaked it out more than anything else. should be fine after shut down and a drive cycle or two. if the light persists, then go back to the dealer, since some of the original hardware was an older design version and does not have the built in shutoff to work with the reprogram and will eventually burn out the pump itself.
