Talk to me about test pipes and CEL

Hi everyone,

Thinking about getting a test pipe for my RA. A few questions:

1. Does the UR O2 bung really work? I'm worried about getting CEL warnings. Are there any other brands apart from UR that make good test pipes?

2. Does it increase cabin/outside noise over a high flow cat? I heard it stinks badly and that brings unwanted attention by the cops? Is that true?

Thanks all.

I have the AMS HFC and it does smell a little and I also have the adapter bung to space out the O2 sensor and I know for a fact that the spacer does work if you install it with the right jet that comes along with it. If you already popped a CEL before you install it then just clear it after it is installed and you should have no problems.

I have the UR. CEL goes on and off randomly. Stays off about 90% of the time though.

AMS test-pipe, straight piping with angled flanges instead of a bend in the pipe like the other companies' designs, all day everyday, ftw

so what you're saying is that the spacer does work to prevent CELs, and even if it doesn't its no biggie if I get CELs? Its not going to go into limp mode or anything?

Basically that is the gist of it. I put on the spacer and used the medium sized jet that comes with the spacer and cleared the CEL once from when I didnt hve it and it has never come back on. I ran the car for 2 weeks prior to that with the CEL on and it never caused problems but annoy me with it being on.

I have the UR test pipe and I have a CEL 98% of the time. occasionally it will go off for a few seconds and then it's right back on.

It's not hurting anything to have that CEL on for that code, just sucks because 1. the light is annoying, and 2. if something does malfunction you won't know because the light is already on.

Got a custom made test pipe put in today. No CELs but whoa baby... the improvement in the turbo spool and torque (via butt dyno) is noticeable.

Prior to this I was running a 3" catback and a custom tune for 230hp at the wheels.

Downside - extra noise in the cabin compared to stock cat.
