dumpy shifts at low speeds
dumpy shifts at low speeds
I have read the threads involving things like this, but mine seems to be a little diff. Loud clicking/crunching noises while under 20mph, or coming to a stop from any speed. Does not sound healthy at all. Anyone else with a tune having this problem? Car is slipping when dropping from second to first as well with constant ticking. Any info would help out. Thanks
Oh, I dont drag race or launch the car, get on her sometimes, but not from a stop.

Hey, I do hear some noises happening when the vehicle is down shifting in auto mode, thats normal but the slippage i havent expierenced it. I have 19500 miles on it know. Cobb AP Stage 1 93 with HKS SSQ blow off valve.
Right, I have gotten used to the somewhat consistent clunks from the sst. But, the slipping is noticeable, especially when I am driving next to lined up cars or something for the sound bounce off of. Its a very fast clicking, probably 20 clicks in five or six seconds. I am taking it to get serviced this weekend, so we will see what happens...I will update this post once I figure it out.
My 1st transmission, before it starting slipping in 3rd - 6th, had what I would call gear rattle when coasting in 2nd at slow speeds. I didn't think much about it because it did it a little from when it was brand new. Also, the manual says a little rattle / vibration is normal. My 2nd transmission doesn't do that. I'm not trying to worry you, as your sound could be completely different. I would like to mention that most of the SST failures on the board for Ralliarts has occurred around 20,000 miles (mine was at 22,000). I would take it to the dealership and get a tech to ride with you so you can show them. Can't be too safe IMO.

Runaround, if I had to put a phrase to it, "gear rattle" would definitely be it! It only happens from 3rd to second, a is now happening in second when accelerating slowly...Its a consistent fast ticking noise. I took to the dealership today, rode with a tech and he heard it but said they wouldnt replace it until something definitive was wrong...uh, yeah. Did they replace yours after hearing it, did they open up the tranny? Let me know, because I am almost positive we have the same issue.
to be honest with you, I don't like my 1st and 2nd gear on the RA it's either the ECU program when the gear to shift or sth else. Right now I'm using the normal - manual shifting. I find it a bit better because I can control when I shift and I usually down shift only when turning. On red lights I just leave it on manual coz it'll downshift by itself.

They didn't do anything to mine till it started slipping. They didn't open it. They were still not servicing them at the time. I believe they have started training on the SST now, so they may just repair some of them. I feel like mine was more of a TCU problem than the actual SST. I find it very very unlikely sets of clutches would start slipping exactly the same amount at exactly the same time with no other warnings and no errors logged on the car if it where a physical problem.
Right. Well that was pretty much the purpose of my visit to the stealership. The mechanic did hear it, but like you said, no failure. I have documented proof now that says I took it in and the mech did hear something, so its a start...
I actually did some research with the tranny today as I was driving. Here's what I found:
- Auto (normal mode)
As you all know our transmission is TC-SST which is known for it's dual clutch system, the dumpy shift we experience is due to the SUPER fast shifting between gears, I concluded this because : (read the manual normal mode)
- Manual (normal mode)
You can do either smooth or rough shift depends on how fast you shift (not rpm wise but changing from current gear to next gear)
How to do smooth shifting : I found a bug fix for our 1st to 2nd gear for smooth shifting, shift below 2.1k rpm by pulling the stick in the (+) position for at least 2 seconds. It's also the same from 2nd going to 3rd gear. However, 4 to 5 to 6 doesn't need you to leave the stick on the (+) position for 2 seconds.
How to do quick but dumpy shifts: From your current gear quickly pull the stick to (+) position without any delay, so pull to (+) and quickly release, this only happens for the first 3 gears. Gear 4,5,6 doesn't dump at all.
All the above shifts are done with your feet still pushing at the gas pedal, don't lift even a bit coz after all our car is somewhat a sport car.
