AMS BOV, PSI release values

I grow tired of the BBV we have. It is to quiet for my flashy tastes

Does anyone have the PSI release values for their BOV? I know it won't make a difference if it's up or down by a few PSI.

I just want a simple looking BOV(AMS is kind of generic looking, where you look at the HKS SSQV and it has a very bold standoutish looking IMO)

any rate, I couldn't find a direct "talk about your BOV" thread. Do you have any preferences? I just want more noise out of it, without sacrificing quality branding.

*Sidebar* throwing on an AMS Test Pipe as well, not intending to tune yet, any thoughts?(Plenty of these threads, but figured I would combine it instead of spamming multiple threads)

i have the turbo xs hybrid Type-H bypass valve. it recirculates so no CEL, and sounds decent too. you can adjust the spring by putting shims inside. it comes with 5 or 6 shims and i'm using 3. i notice a little flutter under light throttle, so i might take one shim out and see how it goes. most good bov's are adjustable like that. start with a tight setting and go until it doesn't flutter.

there are tons of sound clips on youtube for BOV's if you're looking for a certain sound. the turbo XS bov's are a standard PSSSSH sound.

no need to tune for a test pipe or downpipe apparantly, but you could probably gain a few more ponies with a dyno tune.

Hmm Yeah, just looking for something simple. a bolt-on, make more "look at me" noises, upgrade. Besides, having a decent BOV will help with power delivery anyways.

As far as the test pipe goes. I'm on about it, but I'm leery. With these TC-SST popping at 20k miles I'm afraid of doing anything that might point that back at me. Would give me an excuse to drop in an EVO X 6 speed.

my dealership said a turbo back exhaust wont void my warranty. it's different for each dealership, but that's about all they let us put on the car here other than suspension mods.

Hmm... I'll have to call up my dealer.

Reading through some other posts I saw that AMS has a test pipe with O2 sensor mount on it that avoids the CEL?

AMS doesn't make a BOV for your car or the X. And you should care about performance and not the way it "sounds" or the way it "looks" but thats JUST MY opinion....and if you are gonna run a TP i highly recommend you get it tuned very soon

Yeah, but I don't want to touch anything that's going to impact my warranty to bad.

but yeah, until that warranty runs out, minor cosmetic and aesthetic changes. Little things, tint the windows, plasti-dip the chrome, maybe paint the rims. I replaced the mitsu-star on my trunk with a chrome Decepticon emblem.. Subtle but it makes the car personal to me by tailoring the look to me. I know a TP won't affect it too much. it will open up the exhaust which will help a bit with revving and turbo feel. and a solid metal BOV will serve to help with Turbo spooling as well. but mostly I get the Generic "PSSHHHH" noise. This is my first turbo car that I've personally owned, and Damnit it needs to PSSSHHHHh when it shifts!

but on a serious note, I'm trying to deduce a way to avoid the CEL with a new BOV.

I have the Greddy Type RS Recirculate (Evo 8) kit. The only other BOV i would go with would be Coto, Tomei, EvoX OEM or Synapse... (just my canadian 0.02)

With the Greddy, I get some low rpm flutter like at 1-2psi .. everything is alright after 5psi ..
I just installed the Defi Boost Gauge and feel 10x better when knowing the boost level is correct =)

Yeah, I know I need to go with a recirculate to avoid a CEL...

Is there a way to use a standard BOV and not get the light? regardless to brand?

running a testpipe without a tune on a X is fine. youll pick up like 7 whp and shes still running in the 9 afr's.

now with the BOV. I wanted something that performed and would not leak. but i didnt want to spend a whole heck of alot of loot and i hated the stock location.

I like the HKS quality, but hate the sound. But it never leaks.

So i found a hks, new on ebay in teh stealth black for like 130 shipped. and bought a pre flanged cast pipe to fit it for 12 bucks new. also on ebay. I then modified my stock LICP to make it all fit.

in order to get rid of teh horrid noise the HKS makes, I simply removed the Plastic 3 point piece in the end and now my HKS sounds like a tial.

Very nice, the minor HP gains from the TP are about what I expected. forgive my ignorance "afr's"?

Did you have any issues with CEL putting on a standard BOV? that's my biggest concern.

afr= air fuel ratio. Very important.

the CELs cam be turned off using ecuflash. its honestly a easy task, but, yes, any aftermarket BOV will probably give you a cell.

that was it.. duh on my part.

I was racking my brain for some method I was unaware to avoid a CEL.

Oh well, time to find a BBV that will do what I need, while not tripping the CEL

Look into the synapse bovs. I have heard good things about them. Granted you would want to set it up for recirc, maybe that would give you what you are looking for. As far as the AMS bpv, its the Evo x bpv. I have one on my car. I am going to selling it soon, if you are interested still.

As mentioned this is the first turbo car I've owned so I dont' know to much about the finer nuances off the setup.

You said it would need to be set up for recirc... can any BOV do that?
