Serp Belt Tensioner Design?

Ive been reading around and I cant find out what style of serpentine belt tensioner I have. I have a 2009 RA. Ive heard some have the traditional spring loaded tensioner, and some need a special wedge? My tensioner doesnt wanna budge at all when I try to rotate it

Hope this helps.

I had to use a long bar to take it off and make sure you are on the right one. there is 3 pulleys that look the same but only one of them is the tensioner. No special tool need just a long bar and the right socket. You really have to crank it.

I tore into again and used more leverage to my advantage like previously mentioned, but still no luck. It wont even budge. Still feel like im going to strip the threads so I figured I'd better let a dealer tinker with it.

Originally I tore into it because it ALWAYS squeals on startup. If I let it idle, it eventually goes away in like 15 seconds or so. If I give it a few quick revs on start up (not high RPM) it goes away instantly. Little fraying on outside edge of belt, but no excessively worn idler pulleys. 48,000 miles on current belt. And yes I feel bad bout having that many miles on it. Suggestions?

If this was me. i would cut the belt. Remove the tensioner and check what is going on. Once that is solved I would change the pulleys to metal pulleys and not the crappy plastic ones they have on then new belt and ready to go.

Here is my post from when I did it:

I followed that and I replaced all 3 pulleys.

So I followed what they did here:

My tensioner pulley was bad, but I'm glad I replaced all 3 of them. It took me 1hr 15mins to complete the job and reused the OEM belt since I just replaced the belt about 3 weeks ago. The new pulleys are real nice! I got the copper washer from lowes and the pulleys from http://www.dealerdirectparts.com/201...cpe-2.0t-2.htm which is the cheapest I could find.

Now the OEM pulley do have a back shield, you don't need them with the new pulleys.

I thought about cutting it. I was worried that if I did, knowing my luck, the tensioner would be bad and mitsubishi wouldnt have one in stock and my RA would be out of commission for a while Been thinking about doin the pulley conversion though!

Is it under warranty? I would take it to them if that's the case. Maybe just pay them to change the belt? or just to check the tensioner?

I believe the warranty on powertrain is 5 year/60k.

Bumper to bumper is 3yr/36k.

I could be wrong.

I have not replaced my belt yet.. but I think the threads are reversed on the tensioner pully so you might have been tighening it up this whole time

I accidentally did that to start with ha. Then realized I was just loosening it so I tried the other way, where I ran into the current problem

I imagine my exhaust and wheels will void the warranty knowing dealers

I don't think it will. But keep us updated. I would like to know why it's stuck.
