I just removed the bottom tray cover from the engine and noticed that the entire area where SST meets the engine is wet with oil. Please help

The picture is to small to tell whats going on. upload it in full res.

Was the sst repaired at any time? hopefully not a bad seal between the sst and block.

Does it smell like SST fluid (sort of like crayola crayons), transfer-case lsd fluid (smells real bad) or engine oil ?

Check some of these areas out;

If SST fluid:
1.Check drain bolts on sst are torqued to around 25 ft lbs
2.Look near driverside wheel on SST to make sure it's not leaking from filter area as it could be the filter holder is cracked or not on all the way.

If oil, follow it to source:
1.might be leaking from oil pan (known issue on RA /Evo X) in that case drain oil, use supper thing putty knife to work off old pan, clean off old sealant from block/pan, apply new sealant and bolt back up.
2. might be leaking from head gasket near rear manifold. (have shop fix this)

If transfer-case:
Check the drain bolts or square access panel (i seen my friends ra have a bad seal there)

I just made the picture bigger. I checked the oil level its perfect. I am afraid its the sst leaking. My car is not exactly stock so I do not want to take it to the dealer.

You can tell which kind of oil it is by smell. Engine oil will smell faintly of fuel or just like... engine oil. SST oil will smell...awful.

Could just be the SST drain plug or filter housing.

If not, check around the black pan (or SSP pan if you have).

I checked everything and one thing is certain it is not the SST filter housing. That is the only area that is dry. I cleaned up everything will drive it for a week and see where the wet areas are. I did not smell like the the SST fluid .......so hopefully that is not it. Thank you for all the responses and suggestions. Will update.

There is a known issue with the housing for the SST filter cracking. It's crappy plastic. Any qualified mitsubishi dealership should replace it for you. Mine cracked when they replaced the filter a while back.

looking at that picture it looks like oil and you can see the path from I higher location flowing down from the stains. Double check the bolts around the oil pan.
I had the oil pan gasket leak around 25k miles.

I think you on the right track though, clean it all off, leave the under tray off so you can easily check every day or 2 until you find the source.

What fluid did you use? I've heard some aftermarket fluids will leak...which is why I'm putting diaqueen in now.
