Catback without tune?

So I've been doing some research and haven't been able to find a solid yes or no answer. For starters I do plan on getting a tune. So I'm wondering if it would be safe to run a cat back for a few months before I got a tune. It would be easier on my wallet haha but obviously if it could cause damage or anything I will wait and get them both at the same time.

Even if using an aftermarket downpipe, as long as your running stock cat its fine. That is where the bottleneck is in terms of flow.
