New owner, possible issue, questions.

Alright guys we bought a 2012 RA last Monday. Previous owner did some minor bolt on mods. Intake, exhaust, possible inter cooler or at least piping, and an aftermarket bov. I can't stand the bov and think that it's either not properly installed or something's amiss.

Anyway when at higher speeds 40mph+ if you get on the gas at all the bov chirps and constantly releases the pressure. Then the car will hiccup a little and struggle to really accelerate. It also makes a sucking sound but idk if that's normal for this car/engine or if something else is wrong.
I'm taking it to a tune shop in ten days to have things looked over but they won't tune the car due to the transmission. So if this sounds like a tuning issue I'm going to have to go elsewhere. Really don't want this to be a serious issue. The car only has 22k miles on it and everything looks brand new.

Not sure what else to do as I don't know enough about these yet t figure it out. Checked everything and I don't see any loose hoses or anything like that. To me it sounds like a vacuum leak but idk why.

Any thoughts?

Could you post some pics of the engine bay? What BOV is on it. It sounds like you are just losing boost pressure and the BOV most likely is the culprit from what you described.

I'll shoot some pics tomorrow. I'm hoping that's all it is. It's definitely what it feels like.

I have no idea what any of the brands are aside from if they say so on it. Everything looks like it was done decently but I just don't know.

If he put a BOV(our cars use a Bypass valve, essentially the same unit just piped differently) Chances are you just need to reconfigure whats there. Post pics ASAP and we can try to sort you out.

Does the shop tune evos?

Ok here's some pics. If need anything specific let me know and I can try my best.

I believe the shop would tune EVOs but I doubt they would tune the X MR with the SST tran. But who knows? I may not even have them do anything if once I talk to them in person they don't seem confident they can fix anything.

Air filter looks dirty? Or is it supposed to look like that?

Thanks

Yeah, have an experienced EVO X shop tune it and troubleshoot it. Do not go to a tuner that doesn't speak TC-SST Consider CBRD (if not too far from you).

It is easy to swap the BOV and see if that fixes it. The tune does not affect BOV. That is just a spring and vacuum signal to release pressure.

The bigger concern is that the PO returned to the stock tune before turning the car to the dealership. Especially if PO was having trouble and was getting some CELs and didn't want to fix it.

Driving this car hard with these mods without proper tune is harmful/fatal to the engine. The stock tune would be way too lean at max boost.

Once sorted out - this will be a great car - very enjoyable.

I put a message into this Buschur Racing. If I don't hear from them by tomorrow I'll call them probably.

As I told you in your other thread, Buschur is a safe bet.

Well just got done with Buschur's. He put it on dyno but was unable to tune it. Said that it had been previously tuned but hat the ECU was locked and unless I can find where it was previously done he couldn't touch it. He did reset the ECU though and cleared a cel and did two pulls on the dyno and said it ran great. Came back with 261max hp at 27.5lbs of boost. Which seems a bit high to me but we can't do anything about it at the time. It has mostl AMS parts on it so I'm going to call their shop outside of Chicago tomorrow probably and see if they have any record on it being tuned. Not sure why someone would lock the ECU. It ran great right afterwards but on the way home it started sputtering again so I'm definitely going to have to find either the previous owner or where it was tuned. Not sure how to do that with privacy laws the way they are.

The only thing I can think of is ask the dealer if they could get ahold of the owner that sold it too them and see if they can get some information from him for you?
Just on a side note I think if your selling a car that is modded, that's fine, but should be a requirement to say where the stuff was tuned and what was installed and where.
I understand some ppl may not want to tell the dealer they've had it tuned, but it's almost a question that should be investigated by the dealer if they notice aftermarket parts on a car.

You wouldn't mind but the dealer should be fairly capable of comparing whats on the ecu to what the stock should be...but you know...that's work lol
