They came with the head when I bought it so that's why I have them. otherwise I would have some different ones.
On something that big yes I wouldn't like them as much either... there are better choices

If I ever go bigger I'll probably go with the Jun 272's or BR 272's at that time... but for the stock turbo these are working pretty good

Edit: just read the op's sig line, might want to consider those options... unless you are dead set against upgrading the valvetrain... but I would not spend the money that way, get the springs and the bigger cams, you will be limiting yourself in power with the cams, and rpm's with the factory springs and retainers... not good on a 35r setup

Your guess is as good as mine, but if there are QC issues with these as we have seen with another formerly popular grind, I wouldn't recommend them.
ted he has the 272 grind not the 280. I'm pretty sure the 272's are alot like the hks. the 280 on the other hand isn't.

According to this, the lobe ceters are the same on the whole line for the evo

Looks like the sticky should be updated with that info.

really want to upgrade to these cams but just want to make sure im making the right decision and any help is appreciated!
1) bumpy but stable; drivability is good, nothing extreme
2) yes
3) at least 10 whp more than HKS 264/272
4) no, and I bought them from someone who ran them for a while before me with good results.

i have had the comp 280's for about 7 months now and the only problems i had with them is i had to cut the bolt for cam p/s. and before tune my car would die when i had the ac on at idle. idle is sick with stock cam gears. im still on stock valve train and ecu. i made a thread about my gains. i cant remember exact numbers but i got right at 50 whp on a VERY low reading d/d. now the tune on the cams was a little more aggressive then on stock cams so results might be lower for someone else but all in all i am impressed and love the comp 280s, there about the most aggressive cams you can run on stock valve springs from what ive heard. but i would suggest them over the hks but if your gonna do springs and have a bigger turbo then go with the br's

Here's a video of the Comp 280's at startup and idle:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=4J11f3aaniM

1. Idle is a slightly lumpy but civil.

No driveability problems on my current Buschur AEM tune after the car is warmed up. Car drives fine in the heat and cold and with the AC or heat on.

I did have some driveability issues and stalls on my original TT AEM tune. It was most prevelant when the AC was on.

The cams are a bit on the laggy side compared to a similar equipped Evo I drove with HKS 272's.

2. Stock valvetrain

3. Power gains I cannot really comment on since I never had another set of cams on the car and installed the cams with a bunch of other parts, but Al from Dynoflash has tested them:

4. No problems so far with them. I got them fairly early, prior to what seems to have been a bad batch a few years ago.

I just installed the Comp 280's last week. So far, I'm impressed. The idle is pretty lumpy...i kinda like the lope tho. Sounds pretty sick! I've tuned it and it didn't take too much adjustment as far as fuel maps. (had to richen it up alittle). I had to pull some timing tho..as it knocked around the 4000-5500rpm range. According to Datalog labs, I gained on average of about 25-30 whp from the cams. Also, this was installed with stock cam gears (0,0) Might be able to get a little more, but made excellent gains straight up.

I installed the adjustable cam gear on the intake cam and set to -3, the idle smooths out and the off-idle response is noticeably improved... I might get another gear for the exhaust side and hit the dyno later on this summer... I did have to remove some timing up top, 1 degree above 6000, but other than that no changes...

I didn't get a dyno comparison but from a quarter mile stand point w/out comp cams 12.78 @107.5 compared to 280 comp cams and AMS LICP 12.16 @ 113.7. Timing was +2 degrees with the cams.

5 year old thread.

Where are you @ in ky? I'm about to pull a set of GSC's out of my car in favor of the new R2 grind.
