First 09 Ralliart Review
Hey all,
I was on Road and Track and they have their first impressions of the RA. All in all very favorable but I hate how the article was written. They keep referring it to the Evo X MR which is a beast in its own category. In essence it sounds like a slightly positive article but with some negative comments with no referance to its nemesis the WRX which it only says should steal sales. Well, see for yourself.

It's a shame they saw fit to write the article in the Evo vs. RA context, instead of the more realistic RA vs. WRX vs. MS3 vs. SRT4 comparison.

You are so right. I did that just recently....back in August I bought a MazdaSpeed3 instead of my dream car and Evo. At the time I couldn't afford the Evo but could the Mazda. So I got the Mazda modded the hell out of it and then realized the FWD couldn't handle the numbers I wanted to archive. So I got an Evo a few months ago and lost tons of money on trade in and the parts. Trust me if you are looking at the RA but settle for the GTS you will be happy at first but then realize settling was a huge mistake. TRUST ME. I lost thousands!

On topic, I think that this will beat the WRX with a fair margin. I know that people love the 5mt but I think the TC-SST is going to be a hit (heck it is probably one of the main reasons I am looking into the RA). I was on Nasioc reading up some of their thoughts and they think the same thing (That Mitsu did a great job). Hopefully SoA will step up their game and give as an even better WRX. It will only be better for us enthusiasts in the end.

[also very nice that that price works out to $32-33k in Canada, which is only slightly more than the $31-32k I expected to pay back in February when I decided to buy one of these -- likely to be in the neighbourhood of Cdn$38k loaded]
Some nice details -- around US$27,5000, and also good to hear it will be 17/25 mpg (I thought it would be 18/25, but close enough... https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...56&postcount=7)

This article proves that they need to keep it lower than that. I don't think Evo Lite for $27.5 is gonna sell much. With the SST, they can maybe come in just over the WRX at $26,500 for the base model, but any more and they need to make it less Lancer GTS and more Evo.
You also have the MS3, Civic SI, etc crowd so if you price it too much over them, you will not draw potential buyer's away. I know those aren't in the same class but those that aren't niche shopping and looking for a general performance car for a good price may jump to the higher RA. I think 25k sounds like a threshold that some people don't like to cross.
on the info to the MPG
If the car has less power then the X, why is the MPG worse then the X?
Isn't the X getting like 18/25
while the RA is getting 17/25 or is that still speculation?
anyone hear anything on this yet?

the MR gets 17-22
so the RA gets marginally better mpg
The RA MPG is still speculation and is not confirmed. Read the article again. Also it did state that the 5th and 6th gears are taller compared to the MR for the exact reason of drawing better MPG.
The way that the 4b11t responds to mods in the GSR it should be the same in the ralliart since they have the same exact motor exe turbo an intercooler, Im buying one.
I think the ralliart get the 100k warranty while the GSR/MR only get the 60k?

Motor trend first drive
Hello all again,
browsing the car world and found this in motor trend.
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...ive/index.html
I think a more objective article then the road and track one. From the sound of it, both mag's were probably at the same first drive event but R&T came out first. Alot of the information in this one has already been speculated on. But, First for me was the weight is supposed to be 140 lbs. lighter then the MR. The est. base of 27k is not thrilling me since Edmunds, R&T, and now MT have all estimated it around there.
Not too informative from what we have already heard and really no new info on driving impressions but it is a good read. Also, it is nice to hear the RA recieving positive reviews so far.

Interesting, one thing I did notice was that its supposed to be 130lbs lighter than the evo (with same transmission) at 3470, yet I've heard the evo weighs anywhere from 3350 to 3500, which is about the same if not lighter.
