issue with the rear wiper on my IX
So, I'll try and make this short. Basically, it's been snowing like crazy and has been super cold for the past week or so. I tried my rear wiper a few times throughout the week, but it was frozen to my rear window all week. I just gave up on it for a few days, but it warmed up a little bit the other day, so I knocked all the ice off of it, and unstuck it from the window. I go to use it, and I see it move a little bit, and then it just falls all the way down, so it's hitting the trunk. I can just take it by hand and put it back in the right spot and it will stay, but if I try to use it, it just twitches a little and falls back down now. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what damage I might have caused? I'm guessing it's not a burnt out motor, just because it does move a little. It's almost like something snapped or came disconnected? Hopefully someone can help me out with this. Thanks.

I have not taken one apart, but what are the gears made out of in the wiper? If they are plastic they could very well be broken. That would explain why it moves a little then fails. The teeth are catching for a moment then it hits a missing section.
I had a problem similar to this with a front windshield wiper on another car in the past.
Check to see if it came loose at the joint/attachment point itself. The way you describe it is how mine reacted.

Usually wipers have a cap that covers a nut where the wiper attaches to the vehicle. Pop this cap off pull the bolt off and then pull the wiper completely off. Cycle the rear wiper motor once so you are sure that its in it's parked position and then re-install the wiper and torque down that nut to spec. I hope this helps as i don't have an evo (yet) and i am just going from general wiper experience. The splines on the motor sometimes become slightly stripped so it might be necessary to over tighten the nut slightly. Hope this helps.
I appreciate all the suggestions. I am thinking possibly broke something loose, or stripped something. I'm going to take it apart soon and hopefully I won't have to take it the terrible dealership around here.
SUPERanimal ftw!!!!!11!!11!one!!!!!
Thank you so much for pointing that out. Went out and the nut was about a 1/8 turn too loose. Made sure I got that sucker tight and it works now! Funny how that works.

I would try and tighten that bolt under the wiper cap first the go from there... Maybe it was trying to push all that snow and it stripped the teeth on the wiper. If you tighten it it may work.. LMK
Here you go; this is what I was trying to explain at one time the other poster explained it better though.
Please ignore the dirt also.

Pop the cap up and tighten that nut.
