wow...i don't get to show up at the meets...hopefully i still can after all this is done. i wouldn't mind the $10...

i think it was already said before..but a group doesn't go anywhere without someone pointing it to a direction. i think everyone who organizes this group does a great job and very fair with everyone especially for people (like me) who never even get to make it to 90% of the events. i didn't read every post so i'm not sure i fully understand what's going on...but like sean said on one of his posts...it needs organization because we are in different age groups/brackets...some are single, some only go to school, some have work, some have family, etc. so that itself is a huge task to get everyone on the same page and consider everyone's situation.

anyway, i hope i didn't babble this for no reason. i just wanted to share an opinion too. i have fun whenever i make it to the meets (or meet ). to be honest, that is my only other pass time besides when i work on my car. it's a hard task to juggle working, raising kids, helping out at home, and set aside some time for my own hobbies.

as one of the long time members the most veteran members i know would be kelly, jim, mark, vince (who still occasionally posts up here), quincy, ramsey and i'm sure there are a few more. these guys have been around since cody and jason started the club. we have all experienced the time when we had a committee with the "old and retired executive board"(haha, just playin with ya kelly), the president, member dues, t-shirts, stickers, organized events, club sponsors, etc....... i remember some of the successful stuff and some of the unsuccessful stuff.

here are a few of the things that i have observed

1)member dues when it was 40 dollars a person didn't work well. we had to pay it and were sopposed to get a shirt, get your profile on the webpage and help the club pay for that stuff. i never got a shirt or a profile. some people never paid yet always participated. and i know someone has a box full of t-shirts that never got purchased also it was always a question who to pay, how to pay, when do you have money etc..

2)organizing a specific event should not be put on to one persons shoulders every time. this is the case of burning out members, like kelly, ethan, and i'm afraid sean and other current active leaders will get burned out as well when they try to help but everyone relys on them for everything.

3)you are relying on a bunch of non-comital people to come to events(its the truth especially when money is involved), so doing things like track days, where people need to fork over quite a bit of money and plan way in advance, people will always back out at the last minute.

4)a meet is almost always going to be attended by a few of the very committed members. often times they are the only people who show to some events. there are hundreds of evos in the area, yet at the best attended events you see 25-30 tops. if an event can create a bunch of buzz, then the non-regulars will show, and thats when you get those 25-30. the best events i have ever been to have been the first don herring track day (25-30 evos, many of which out on the track), seans picnic (great turn out and awsome atmoshpere), and your occassional tuesday night meet where a big turnout happens (i wasn't at the movers and shakers meet, but i know that was a good turnout just by the pictures).

5)as a former member of the Porsche club of america, they are highly organized, pay dues, and have events like track days, autocrosses, banquets and such. we are not an international club, and can't have the management structure they do with nothing but volunteers (and don't have a cash system to hold events where insurance is required). we can however volunteer to organize and or help an event you personally would like to see happen. thats really the only way these events we have, happen. volunteers.

6)time after time the club tries to get its own webpage going. i've seen it 3 times so far, and all 3 were never used for more then a month or two, and even then by only a few people. evoM is by far the biggest gathering point for evo people, and this should be used as the forum for which the club organizes and announces events. honestly the hard work the people put into the NTEC webpage is most of the time wasted because an event gets announced here, and completely overshadows the "official" announcement on the club webpage. i think everything we need as a loose knit club or even as a well organized club can be achieved on evoM, and it will keep the traffic high.

chad, i think you are correct on some things, but wrong on others. first, without some organization, you will never have the "big" meets. the meets like the picnic, the track days, or the charity cruises where 200 cars show up. it takes organization to do that, theres no way around it. i totally agree that having a "committee" is a waste because your going to need the same people to organize each event which is going to burn people out, ssomeones not going to be happy with the way things are run, and ultimately its still going to be the same people showing up to the events. the club needs some organization to have direction, and get good events to happen. the better the events are the more people will show up. the random cruises, dinner meets, and such happen best by jsut letting them happen. have one person announce the event, and you'll get people to go. it doesn't take a committee to do that.

my suggestion is to leave a few people in charge of the clubs primary focus, which should involve members, expand membership, and increase recognition. this can entail:

1) creating a primary meeting place online, be it our own forum on evoM, an email list where events are sent out that way, or a mass phone calling robot

2) create a list of current members, and a place new people can introduce themselves. i've been thinking about this myself, and a "NTEC member bios" sticky thread would be awsome, describe who you are age/family members/profession/interests along with a picture of yourself, and also a description of your cars mods and a picture or two (not 200) or your car in its current state. and last it can have a status: active/inactive/retired so we know who are current members.

3) increase recognition by generating sponsors, making stickers and handing them out, t-shirts, and getting the NTEC name on big name events like the rice killer meets, don herring/NTEC track day, flyers, and business cards to hand to people (like what mark berry has always done), but the evoM webpage with the south region or our own NTEC club subforum should be the link because its always the primary meeting point.

from there, there are a couple events a year the club can organize, and we can put certain people in charge of that event (and it has to be more then one person in charge in case something happens there is a backup or two). say an autocross day can be organized by evosomeday, and mark. a monthly thursday night dinner and cruise can be organized by chad and kelly. and a track day can be organized by myself, don herring, and sean. every random event doesn't need to be organized by these people though, and any member can organize whatever event they want (within reason, i think a "NTEC attends the democratic nation convention" might cause a little controversy, and so would "NTEC goes to baby dolls").

its the responsibility of the members to create the events, not the club organizers to organize the events. the club organizers can make sure the club goes to the events though, once someone has stepped up to make an event happen. this keeps the responsibility of the events to you (everyone), and not to a few poor souls who get put on a committee who needs to organize everything themselve.

thats my .02 and i'll do what i can do to help as well

Thanks

I just sent my guy the log that I had posted and he converted it. I do not have it on my work computer. He was cutting me some of the stickers today and said he should have them tomorrow or the next day. If your guy turns out to be cheaper I will just eat the extra price my self and sell them for the same thing. He was only charging me $2.00 per sticker.

NTEC: March 7th Meet in Frisco

There's another event that we can't talk about that's starting point is at Luigi's in Frisco.

What: Show up in droves, drool over cool exotics, participate in the other thing if you want
Where: Luigi's in Frisco @ 4944 Preston Road #120
When: 5:30pm (other thing starts @ 7pm)

I've talked to the owner of the start point and he's happy to have us. There are going to be 100+ car ranging from Evos to twin turbo vipers to possibly a veyron.

Kevin has a lot of experience with volunteer organizations.... you think its hard to get a bunch of car guys to come to a car meet, trying getting a bunch of volunteer college students to build a car from scratch in the their "spare" time!!

one though, instead of having "dues" we could have the NTEC stickers made, for 1-2 dollars, and charge 5 dollars per sticker. proceeds go to a club fund which can be used for parking passes at the picnic, a webpage, or whatever the club deems the money should be used for. likewise for the shirts...

NTEC: T-shirts

I placed a sample order for a tshirt using the attached image with http://Printfection.com. They have a coupon on their homepage that makes your first order $7 after shipping. Maybe we can all make "first sample" orders

It should be here in a couple weeks (I'm too cheap to spring for upgraded shipping). When it comes in I'll show it off at one of the meets. Unless it sucks.
