question about cobb AP

i have 08 evo x MR.

i just changed the exhause to Greddy SE catback, and planning to change intake to AMS cold air, or AMS short ram....

no further mods in plan near future....

would it be better tune ECU after changing intake system?

or would it be better to get a cobb AP for the future?

You can get it now and change flashes depending on your mods. Currently you'll want the Stage 1 map for stock intake, once you get the AMS intake you'll want the Stage 1 + AMS intake map.

Of all the mods out there, besides possibly a drop in filter, any air intake mods will throw the tune off on the Evo X's. The Air intakes that replace the stock diamter piping where the MAF sensor mounts are the ones that will definitely require you to retune the car to ensure that it is in the safe AFR region still.

Do they have Stage 1+ and stage 2+ tunes, I don't see them on their site.

With any cobb map, I believe you NEED to run the stock airbox, but can replace with aftermarket air filters.. perrin has a map, and HKS has a map as well.. not sure of others

Cobb makes specific maps for certain intakes such as stock, stock w/drop-in, their SF, Injen's, AMS', AEM's, etc.

ahh thank yopu for that - can you link me?

I assume the true intakes offer more power than aftermarket filter?

What intake kit do you recommend or have seen to provide the consistent most power?

A full intake should be beneficial over just a drop-in filter. There are quite a few good intake kits on the market, I personally have the AFE Stage 2 DryflowS w/Perrin inlet pipe on my car (which Cobb does not make a direct OTS map for, but it should be very similar to their SF).
