AEM with MAF

Removing the MAF is the single biggest advantage of the AEM (or other standalones) for performance.. Like David has observed, until your car is highly modified and you need the granular adjustability of a standalone, getting an AEM and keeping the MAF isn't going to be a huge gain over a good reflash or piggyback setup.

I run a UTEC but am also a fan of the AEM EMS and another EMS called the Hydra, but when I removed the MAF on the UTEC and ran another type of MAF sensor, I picked up quite a bit of power plus a few other things "Worked themselves out" after I did that.. But anyway, if you can source the right connectors, then swapping back and forth between the ECU and the AEM is fairly easy. The only things you'd have trouble with are the components that you tuned the AEM for, you'd also have to get some sort of ECU flash for them to work right, otherwise its pointless to swap back to the ECU and fail your inspection because of a really rich mixture, poor idle, CEL's or other things that will just come back when you reinstall the ECU.

I wonder if someone at some point will create an OBD-II diagnostic interface for some standalones so they are compliant with the OBD-II standards.. If that becomes available then the EMS becomes a viable option for me.

I like that Dave is honest and frank about the upgrades he offers, it makes choosing his products all the more worthwhile knowing he won't in good conscience recommend something you really don't need based on what you want from your car.

I don't want to sound too much like a dick but you'll have to get the help from the guys you purchased the AEM from, sorry.

Most of your questions can be answered by reading the Install PDF's that came with the AEM software or the instruction manual. They give you in full detail how to convert the car from MAF to MAP. If you have furter questions you should contact your local tuner. AEM provides the customer a START UP calibration that will start the car in MAP. You tuner should be able to do the rest.

Hit the www.aempower.com fourms, this is a write up in the EVO section specifically for the change over. It should answer any questions that you may have. Hope it helps.

As a matter of fact I added to that thread last week or so to help people know which wires under the hood to splice into. It has great pics as well. Here it is:

Man, that is cold. What about helping other people out. I bought my ems used and could really use some help with it and luckily have found a couple local guys willing to help me out with it. I mean how hard would it be to tell the guy how to wire the MAP and IAT sensors. I was actually about to order a turbo kit from you, but after this and the attitude I got from you when I called I think I will take my business elsewhere. After all, contrary to you own thinking, there are other people out there who know how to tune a 4g63. You need to stick a needle in your head and let out some of that hot air out. Obviously if I were at the track and broke down you would be the last person to offer a helping hand.

I think its called buyer protection and adding value. You are correct that there are many other tuners out there but most of the time you pay for support. That's why you pay for up for a Dell vs. white box manufacturer.

You shouldn't be so hasty in your reply because you didn't get what you want. You want cheese with that whine?

strongbear0,

I am in business to make a living. If I come on here and tell everyone how to tune their EMS and how to wire it etc. there is nothing added by buying the unit from us. You just find the cheapest price and then call up old David Buschur and have him give you maps and wiring instructions for it. What do I get out of my hundreds of hours of experience tuning EVO's? I'll tell you what, a never ending amount of e-mails and phone calls asking for free advice. It doesn't keep our doors open, it doesn't pay any of the guys here.

I'm sorry you have decided that you won't be ordering a turbo kit from us from my response. Hopefully the turbo kit you do get comes with tech support and you don't need anything extra. You get what you pay for and this thread should be proof of that.

There is not hot air in my head, lots of information in there though, I'm afraid if any escapes after I poke it with the needle then someone will get it for FREE!!! So I will be passing on the needle sticking

If you broke down at the track we'd be more than willing to help you out, probably cost you though.

Hey, if you look at the thread I didn't ask for anything. I was simply stating that I thought it was cold for him not to offer help. What if he had bought it used and didn't have anyone to turn to for help. That was my point. Once again, no where in this thread did I ask anyone for help.

He didn't ask for a map he asked how to wire a map and iat sensor. That is a little different then him asking you to tune his evo for free. And if I was at the track and broken down I would hope that if you could help you would not be in it for the money, but I guess not. I can safely assume that you have never stopped to help anyone to change a flat or see if they need help with something, and if you did you were only doing it with the lure of compensation. That must be a horrible way to live. I for one try and do anything I can for anyone I can and I don't do it to try and get a reward. Hell, I spent two weeks after the recent hurricanes in Florida doing whatever was needed for people in my neighborhood and I didn't get one cent. You would probably have been like those a**holes the day after the hurricanes coming around trying to profit off of other peoples misfortune.
