can the EMS hold more than one map?

Is it possible to store more than one map in the EMS and have a switch set up to toggle between the two? Say a 91 octane map and 100 octane?

I know you can just upload a new map via your laptop but I am not sure about the switching on the fly. I dont recall coming across that info in this forum. If I missed it sorry.

This depends in how you look at it. For example, you can't actually switch full maps while the car is in use becuase it is a complete standalone. It is controlling every aspect so you can't interupt that. But you can setup a toggle switch as a map switch like you are asking. Several of people do this by setting the complete ECU up for pump gas then you can use a toggle switch to activate the NOS maps that you could use for a race gas tune by using the NOS fuel to remove fuel and the NOS Ignition to add timing. This is very easy to do and it will work but you can do better by tuning a entire map for race fuel but this is just an option for an AEM owner.

I hope this helps answer your question.

I think the only thing missing with most standalones is the option to change maps. I simple tog switch would be great!

Thanks GTVEVO. I know you can add a toggle switch to do a high boost/low boost setting...I think Jason Seibels answered that one for me.

I guess I will ask my tuner what he think of that idea on using the NOS feature to act like a 100 octane map.

90% of the time I always have 100 octane in the tank but the car is tuned for 91. I dont own a laptop so that makes it a pain in the a$$ to connect to my desktop.

Appreciate the info.

no problem, if you are going to use a switch for boost you can tie the same switch for high boost to the nos map activation as well. Just something to keep in mind.

You can keep as many maps as your computer will hold but the ECU its self can only hold one full map.

What do you do, drag your desktop outside, or drag the evo inside?

Seriously though, you can connect the aem to your desktop without it powered up in your evo? I only ask, because I am new to the aem, and have just been updating my maps on the couch and go outside to reupload to the aem. On my old system (UTEC), you had to hook up a 9 volt batter to do anything on it if it was disconnected from the car.

You can not connect to the AEM unless it is powered up. The key has to be in the on position to startup the ECU main power. This is the only way you can change the current map loaded or upload a new map.

yeah....i drag the damn computer into my garage. I paid for the tune so I only did that one time, when I bought it (used $500) to confirm that the thing worked.

So let me get this straight, you can activate the "N2O" maps (actually high-boost race gas map in my case) with a toggle switch hooked to the EMS. And you can also use the same switch input to activate "high boost" using the EMS boost control??

If so that is completely kick ***.

So, what would be the optimal map/switch configuration if you wanted 3 maps. 93, 93+AI, C16. Can you set up the 93 and 93+AI to work as a single map with some sensor cutting boost if the AI fails, and then use the NOS control to activate the C-16 map??

I would think you need two seperate switches to accomplish this. Remember too, these are not full maps for various octanes. Its just a way to make a minor change to your base map.

You are altering the main map but you can do it with one switch, all you have to do is set the NOS switch to the same switch you are using to activate your higher boost. They an both use the same one so when the switch is grounded or ungrounded you actiavte both at the same time.

I do and show people how to do the same thing with SMC Alky injection, for example when the alky pump makes > 40psi I have it activate an analog switch #7 and then I use that switch activate to activate the NOS maps and also actiavte the higher boost switch so you can run alky safely as well. I explained this in the AEM section and several people use it. It works great, I have been running it for a long time. If you are interested in this please read the entire writeup I did before doing it though.
