newb aem question?

Hey guys,

Ever since I got AEM EMS installed my car stalls at low speeds when the clutch is pushed in when I'm coming to a stop, it usually happens when im turning the wheel or going at low speed. Also, when I start the car the RPM's go straight into 3-4k RPMS and sticks there for a long time unless I put it into gear...but the RPM spikes up whenever I put the clutch in until the engine is fully warmed up.

check your idle speed params, you'll likely need to adjust your idle speed and the graph.

actually, you want to check your hi idle.

I'd suggest a search here and on the AEM Forums.

If your idle goes too high and sticks, it's because the ISC base table is set too high, RPM goes over the upper idle closed loop control RPM limit, and the EMS doesn't bother trying to reduce it. By putting the car in gear and dropping the RPM a bit, it falls back into that closed loop RPM window and controls itself. I've found that I need to get the ISC base table ***** on with no idle speed control at all before even trying to attempt getting good closed loop control. Lately in fact, I run completely open loop for idle. I don't disable with the RPM window, but with the precentage control limits. This way the high idle function still works, which others were refering to above and is a very useful feature for keeping the motor running as you come to a stop and take slow turns.

I've found that the best way to set up the table is to set warm idle speeds with the motor warmed up, and cold idle speeds with the motor cold. ISC requirements will vary based on coolant temp (FIAV position is key, in addition to the normal factors). In my case, I have idle settings from 1100 to 1500 rpm. High idle speed is plus 200. I set 1100-1300 with the motor warm, and 1300-1500 with the motor cold. Works like a champ.

Once the base ISC table is set up, closed loop control becomes much easier.
