need help with non mivec evo 9 head with aem ems. pretty intresting!!
so i made an evo9 head non mivec, all in all in the process i removed the intake cam angle sensor, knock sensor and every bit and piece of the mivec system, leaving me with only a crank position sensor and a exhaust cam angle sensor. now my main concerns (i have the evo 9 plug and play ems)
1)can i turn off the mivec
2) can i turn off the knock sensor
3)can i turn off the intake cam angle sensor
4) will the evo 9 ems even work, or do i need the 8?
5) since i removed the intake cam angle sensor i only have the exhaust cam angle sensor. im hoping and praying that the ecu uses the exaust sensor to see the position of the cam and find tdc to signal the ignition for spark. is that right?
also the exhaust cam sensor has 2 teeth/arms/lugs kind of things on it that rotate. with the ems does it read off of both of them or just one? like does it get one signal per revolution of 2 signals per revolution? im confused by this because normally cam angle sensors only have one arm on them and read one arm one time per revolution right? im lost here. please help i need to figure out how the aem will read tdc to signal the ignition to send spark. do i need to cut one of the arms off the the piece that rotates inside of the cam angle sensor on the exhaust side? or since its the plug and play ecu i should be able to leave it the way it is?

i honestly do know know why but i am pretty sure my engine builder took off the knock sensor. is that bad? should i put it back on? im looking at a 1000 hp if it matters
It's not going to start in the current configuration. The EMS will reference all the cam/crank sensors to insure the engine is in time before it introduces fuel/spark. You will need to steal parts of the evo8 cal file to make it work.
Do not attempt to use the evo8 startup cal, it will not run correctly on the evo9 box. You have to start from the evo9 cal.

You can disable your knock control. You do not need it to start the car.
However
The EMS knock control might be the single most important feature. It will save your engine in a variety of unforeseen circumstances. Considering your HP goals, you will defiantly want to install the sensor.

which parts of the evo8 cal.? the parts where the 9ems would read both cams but the 8 would only read one? lucas is going to tune this car but i want to get it atleast for fire up and run before i hand it over to him. i personaly hate being thrown into the middle of someone else's can of worms and i dont want to do that to him. some more info on what i need to do would be great guys. ill take 9 file and blend some 8 stuff into it? just parts where it only reads the exhaust cam where the 9 would read both? also i figured out how the ems reads the cam triggers, i found that in the aem ems instuctions that were burried in the bottom of the box :-)
the intake has 4 pulses and the exhaust has 2 pulses per revolution, since i now only have the exaust trigger i should be able to just turn the intake one off in the ems setup somewhere, or like your saying steal some parts from an 8 cal. i found that in the aem ems instuctions that were burried in the bottom of the box :-)

Looking at the two maps, there are a lot of variables that are different and will affect not only how the car starts, but how it runs.
The injector and coil phasing are different, dwell times, and others.
I haven't done it so I don't know exactly what to expect or what to recommend to you. Compare your 'Advanced Pickups' template for clues. (Templates>Run>Advanced Pickups)
You can see all the differences by using the compare feature. File>Compare>Startup Calibrations>Mitsubishi-DSM>1313 Map
Compare that calibrations and discuss what you see with your tuner. There might be some trial and error involved, but I'm sure you can get it.
