Update.. Evo is finally tuned. I had some minor issues with the knock sensor so the timing was kept really conservative, in the 11s iirc. afr were 11.6 and a nice flat boost curve. I couldn't find that file that had graphed that one, but here is the final dyno numbers.

314 hp/ 320 ft lbs at 23.5 psi. 91 Cali Craptane fuel.

this was on KTMotorings dyno in Chatsworth,Ca. Great folks up there, great tune. The car feels like it is woken up. Its all whole new beast, yet idles so smooth and drives really nice. Even with my balance shafts deleted I notice more of the cam lope more than anything.

heres a video of the evo on the dyno.

Full Rundown of mods:

Oem shortblock
Balance shafts deleted using oem stub shaft

ARC intercooler
stock evo 9 turbo
Titek O2 housing
Buschur ported oem exh manifold

Map Stage 1 head, no port work
Tomei poncam type R 270s. 10.7mm lift intake/ 10.2mm lift exh
BC springs/Ti retainers
ARP Headstuds
OEM hg
Kiggly HLA

FIC 1120cc low z injectors
walboro 255

ETS licp
ETS short route uicp
Spoolinup Cop

RRE Dp
oem Catalytic converter
HKS sport catback
Stock intake

All in all really a mildly built car so Im really happy with these numbers.

Your not afraid the extra heat from more Horsepower will ruin the stock cat?

Im not sure if that necessarily will shorten the cat as much as the high zinc oil Im running. Id like to see if I can hit 400 eventually with the stock cat. I wouldn't race it with the stock cat unless it was a really strict db sound level track like Laguna Seca. Otherwise on the street when I daily drive it barely sees 5-10 psi unless Im passing or merging, and then making that full power just for that instance.

A 300 hp evo at those levels is probably only making a fraction at those lower boost and load levels. So its not like Im wot from point A to point B when I drive on the street.

I will eventually swap out the stock cat, its mostly on there since I needed it to pass smog since its a dd. I had a heck of a time finding one to begin with, maybe I will swap it out in case it does get prematurely damaged.

Those are incredible results with the stock cat in place. I bet that you would find another 20 who or so by getting rid of the oem cat. Very nice Evo. I love the attention to detail.

Thanks. I would be very curious to see what kind of power I would pick up once I track some phantom knock Im seeing. Its more than likely due to the noises and vibrations caused by my rear diff pinion bearing and/or backlash issue. Once I fix that I plan to go E85, swap in a test pipe, and turn up the boost a bit

Nice thread! Bummer about the blown motor. Makes me worry a little because our car is double-driven too.

About the cat, I've been all about keeping it clean too, but I'm finally facing my reality that there's nothing I can seem to do to keep the car from knocking at the track. All indications are that backpressure is just too high (logged it) from 5500->. No amount of good fuel nor timing reduction will make it go away. Compression is okay, no boost leaks, not sure of phantom knock but I don't have many mods and the car is pretty tight.

Here's a datalog from a week ago at Laguna. First is retard in counts, the second is number of samples:

I'd love to hear if you can figure out a better way, but my plan for now is to go with a Mil.spec 100cps and/or cut-out similar to this but with a cat.

My current exhaust set-up is stock mani, turbo, eBay o2, Vishnu DP, HFC, CBE. I'm just below 91db at Laguna so I've got no margin for those nasty 90db days.

Oh yeah, two other things:
1. I think you missed the intercooler in your list above?
2. I've been running Valvoline VR-1 20-50 conventional with great results (Blackstone verified). I usually change it before every track weekend which means it gets driven to the track, 4 days of use (two drivers * two days), driven home and around town 'till the next event (1-2k). It's less than $6/qt and available both locally @ O'Rileys or Amazon Prime. I'm not convinced the boutique lubricants get you anything with such short drain intervals.

Fixed.

Ya I agree, with that sort of drain interval you should be fine. Back in the days I had a modded mr2 turbo that was tracked way more frequently than the evo I have now. It ran conventional oil with fresh oil before every event. I never had engine failures or issues with that motor, take that fwiw.

These evos seem to be sensitive or easily see phantom knock. We had to pull timing on mine quite a bit because of it. That cutout seems like a great idea. So your having backpressure issues even with a HFC?

TommiM, have you had any issues with water getting on you COP? I would think it would be water from carwashes because we haven't had any good amount of rain in a very long time.

Ya, it has barely rained here. I have never had an issue with it actually. I still try to not purposefully blast pressurized water directly on the hood vent area, and
I never use the drive through car washes so not sure how bad those would leak through.

Thanks for the reply. I like to use a pressure washer to wash the car, and I always wanted to know if people run without their ignition covers on.
