Thumbs up IX on the dirt! First impressions.

Just thought to write and tell of my experience today.

I met up wth Resat (thanks for the lift), Martin Notaras and Hairy at the Canberra dealership. Each of them seem to be really nice and friendly guys. (It was good to meet with all of you) Hairy you have a really nice VIII and I was really impressed by the times you and Martin are getting around Wakefield.

Anyhow, after picking up a blue XI (the blue looks great btw ) and running it in over the next 50 kms or so I gave it an oil change and was ready for the drive home.

I took the long way to Sydney from Canberra (via Braidwood). The road from the outskirts of Queanbeyan to Braidwood has REALLY nice sweeping bends that suit the car exceptionally well. Good views ahead over undulating hills allow overtakes at 200km/h + (relatively safely )

Half way down that road there is a "shortcut" to Nowra on the left. The first part of that road was also really good for a brisk sprint and after 20 kms the road turns to gravel.

GRAVEL MODE SELECTED.

My Lord this thing handles the dirt well. For those that don’t notice the AWC kicking in ... try dirt!!! The management was constantly tinkering with the driving line though I had no feeling of "over control". It just feels very natural. How it does it without "seeing" the road is outstanding. No wonder writers rate it up there with $200K motor vehicles. It was really something to experience.

In some part I am sure I felt individual momentarily rear wheel lockup to get the best direction out of corners. Speedo was reading 125km/h in some parts of the course and for my first drive with this car this was really something. The biggest problem was the power delivery. At 4000 rpm all four wheels spin. Selecting tarmac shows just how much of a difference the "right" setting makes.

In this short drive ... 150kms ... I am fully satisfied that the IX is all that the writers (and MMA) promote it to be.

The power is really strong at 4000 and again at 5000. Overtaking, as long as you are within the power range, is a snap and reduces the time/risk of being on the wrong side of the road.

For all those considering a IX ... do it. You won’t be disappointed.

... AND yes I didn't have a special dispensation from the Pope!

BTW, Thanks again Martin for all the effort in providing great service.

One sore point ... Diamond track is not working and needs to be looked at by a dealer so maybe potential buyers should do a FULL test to confirm GEOFENCE actually WORKS!!! Car is siting here with NO SECURITY SYSTEM!!!

Can't wait for the EVO X and another "group buy" hehehe
