MMC Lancer GSR turbo Upgrade
MMC Lancer GSR turbo Upgrade
Hi people,
I was thinking to perform a turbo upgrade to a TD05 for my Mitsubishi Lancer GSR 97´. I was looking hard for that turbo in my country but there were no good news.
Do you know somebody downthere selling that turbo? 2nd hand? new one? which one should i fit to my Lancer a 13G?, 15G?, 16G?
What extra-jobs sould i done to the engine or intake, exhaust system to get that turbo working properly?
By the other hand, a Mitsubishi Montero (Pajero) TD04 turbo is the same when comparing with the Lancer GSR series?
regards,
Oscar.

I did not know that the Mits TD04 turbo were fitted in the WRX series....
My TD04 turbo is dying thats why im looking for a good replacement + Upgrade.
How much could a boost gauge cost in Australia? im looking for one to fit in my car...do you know somethig who had fit an EVO intercooler in a GSR? What is the main concern when you fit a bigger intercooler in your car? pressure - boost drop?
Well i hope people could answer your questions...
Thank you for the extremely quick response

Yes, the evo front mounts fit on the GSR's, but the one i looked at, he made up brackets.. simple once you take off the front bar..
Boost gauges are everywhere, specially at SuperCheap, where you can get the basic ones for 45 bucks (we got one last week for a project.. you'll hear bout it later
) then going all the way upto the apexi' and hks stuff.. bigger dollars..
Pressure drop shouldnt really be a hassle, as that is one of the performance upgrades for a GSR, as the lil pissy one just doesnt cut it for regular owners who up the boost a lil..

I just compared the EVO VII TD05-16G turbo (exhaust manifold couppled with the turbine housing) with my TD04 exhaust coupling and it was a completly different matter...first of all the EVO VII turbo´s flange (Turbine housing) has four studs as well as mine but located in a very different shape. In my car, the exhaust manifold flange is mounted in a level position but the EVO VII one is slightly inclined (if not then that TD05 could not fit properly).
Im not sure if former TD05 turbo exhaust manifold (EVO V, VI) are very similar with my Lancer GSR series but defintly the EVO VII is not.

Yeah, i would try a different TD05, maybe from an earlier evo, or check out the VR4 turbo..
You will find one, one day ! if not, mig and angle grinder, create your own

If its a 97 GSR then its not a CC Lancer... it would be the CE shape like the Evo4.
If this is the case then I don't think the VR4, Evo 1,2,3 turbos would fit as they are designed to face the opposite direction as the engine and gearbox were rotated 180 deg for the CE shape. Your best bet would be to source a turbo (or at least examine the possibilities of fitting one) from an Evo 4,5 and maybe 6... I'm pretty sure the Evo7 turbo was redesigned quite a bit which your experience would indicate.
If thats no good then just get a GT28 turbo and either get a custom manifold made or an adapter plate.

Ahh dont I feel like a fool now, maybe I should get some glasses, how the hell did I miss the 97 part. Yes the Evo 5/6 sould do the trick. Sorry I am just so used to CC GSR's and we dont have the CE GSR here which is unfortunate, so that stuffed up my responce.
Easy mistake to make.... must say though - I would love to meet the **** for brains who decided that the whole engine and gearbox assembly would be swapped around 180 deg and slap him UP SIDE DA HEAD!!!!
I'm sure there was a reason for it but I sure can't see what it was.
