VSR inlet....

Im just curious, having looked at the VSR and the HKS Kansai inlet the HKS tapers down towards the end away from the throttle body presumably to balance the pressure or flow or something of the air in the inlet into the cylinders.
The VSR doesnt do this - have AMS or anyone tested the flow for balance?

I know the VSR is capable of sustaining high horsepower cars, I'm just wondering re the theory behind the design of both the inlets.

thanks in adv

I believe that the gradual taper is to try to even out airflow across all cylinders, and to get the desired plenum volume in the HKS piece. The AMS unit is designed around the really good idea in my opinion that the Manifold will act as a reservoir of sorts, in a symmetrical plenum. This idea is that each cylinder will draw the air it needs and not starve the cylinder furthest away from the incoming air source.

Ive noticed with a a few tapered intake manifolds by viewing the spark plugs, That the cylinders are not getting a equal amount of air. But thats just my .02

Take this for what its worth, Just my opinion and theory. And I am in no way affiliated with AMS or was in no way a part of the design of their manifold. And could be completley wrong

the reason the VSR manifold work is because the gods of turbo cars came from on high and told eric and martin this is the way it should be
and they did it and it was good
and the gods were happy once again...nuff said

I think they said they also did some sort of CFD stuff so they could probably show you some of thier findings.

Here are just some examples of manifolds with a uniform style plenum. There are great racing engines out there that use both type of designs. I can't say that one is better and I'm sure it depends on the application. From a performance standpoint we tested a bunch of different parameters on the manifold and came up with our design. Is it the best it could probably be? Probably not, as you can spend a lot of time and money making a manifold just perfect for an all out race engine.

From a manufacturing standpoint it was feasable to make and wouldn't send the retail price through the roof like the HKS or Jun manifold. I've tested the manifold on a lot of cars and it's been proven to work. John Shepherd uses one of our manifold's on his 7 second DSM, running almost 200mph in the quarter mile in a unibody car!

Regards,

Martin
