AMS Intercooler Redesign
Guys I am sorry that you feel we are dragging this on. We never even released that we were doing this endtank redesign. Someone merely took a picture we had posted from a thread about engineering and then started this thread. We do not like to talk about releasing a product until we have a solid date. In this particular case we did not want to lie and tell you we were not working on something. You just caught us really early on in the stages.
The end tanks have been finalized and we are just waiting on the cast units to come in. The current FMIC works great and we will continue to offer it until the cast end tanks are available. The cast units just make things a little free'r flowing and simpler.
As far as biting off more than we can chew. The evo is not the only car we work on and we have several teams of guys devoted to a certain car. What they are doing on another car has no bearing on what is happening on the EVO R&D. you can only have so many guys working on a project at once. Not sure if anyone knows this but we have 35 employees at AMS so we have the manpower to work on quite a bit at one time.
The biggest drawback to engineering new products is most certainly the R&D process. You can't rush it and when we are developing something we have to make sure it's perfect. Just like you stated we are known for making great products and we don't ever want to falter on that promise. As of late we have been getting quite a few things casted for the engineering benefits casting provide. casting is a long process though and you have to make sure you are getting it done correctly. Just like hand fabrication there are people that are good at it and not so good at it. All of that research takes time and while we are sorry it does we have to make sure that the AMS product you put on your car holds all the same quality and performance characteristics that you are used to. These long waits in the end only mean a better part for your car. Again we apologize for any excessive delay this or any other part might carry

how bout we light a fire under the R&D team to get it done in the next two days???? jk! i need a THIRD FMIC intercooler replaced my other two have been AMS kits and i need to buy asap within next day or so
Any update of when this is going to be released? Tax return is coming and I need a better fmic. Have track events starting mid-march so I would really like to make a decision soon.
It should be out in about 4 - 5 weeks. the casting is being poured right now. We have EVO X cast end tanks ones available now if you would like to look at them to see roughly what a cast AMS end tank might look like.

The good thing about the sheet metal endtanks on your old 8/9 FMIC was the good entry/exit location. I hope the new cast endtanks will have a thoughtful design as well.
out of curiosity- will it harm anything if i upgrade to the AMS FMIC with stock turbo? their intercoolers are hella nice & good for performance n i wanna rock it with their logo already. plan on getting that and i/c pipes soon. was just wondering if the upgraded fmic will be all right with stock turbo with the basic mods.. i know it's better when the turbo's upgraded, but how about stock? lmk guys, Thanks in advance.
AMS can breath easy now the intercoolers are out for the evo x so that only means the evo 8 and 9 ones are around the corner sit own and wait because all you people crying will be the same people smiling with you get great gains from the IC
