The AMS Genesis coupe is HERE!!! Let the modding BEGIN!!!
I took my Gen Coupe 2.0T to the drag strip today BONE STOCK!!!
I removed all the AMS prototype parts yesterday and she is back to showroom stock condition. This means EVERYTHING is back in the car including spare tire, jack, tools and even the owners manual. AMS believes in completely testing a car STOCK before trying to improve things. The next time we go to the track, we will try some basic weight reduction and possibly a different wheel / tire combo.
This morning I headed out to Byron Dragway to get some baseline numbers on the car. It turned out to be perfect day for drag racing. Cool, sunny and not that crowded.
I made a total of eight passes all in the low 15s and high 14s with my best ET of 14.924 @ 91.91 mph and a best MPH of 92.42. On the stock tires, I can cut a consistent low 2.1 60ft with very light wheel spin. Harder launches with more wheel spin result in wheel hop and high 2.1 60ft.
The DBW throttle body is HORRIBLE for drag racing. I did everything short of "no lift shifting" and my best time came with regular street style shifting. A quick shift resulted in a delay getting back into power. I sure hope Hyundai gets the throttle issue sorted out.
The clutch held up but I do not see it lasting long with drag racing abuse.
We have video that we need to capture and hopefully Rich can whip something up quick for everyone to see.

I'm glad to see AMS is picking up this platform. Previous Hyundais didn't get much love out side of some small shops and korea. Coming from a modded tiburon to the evo and seeing what shops like AMS do with the cars makes me think this platform is going to be very very popular.
How difficult is it to work with the ecu on the genesis? That was always a short coming for the tiburon, there weren't any stateside ecu tuners, so it was just a ton of piggy backs.
Either way, you guys do some awesome work and just reading through every page of this thread has made me excited to see what will come out of it. I only wish you guys were around to support the tiburon back when I was modding mine.
Can't wait to see what comes next.

PEWPSICLE! lmao didnt know u were on this site.
as for getting back on topic, from what i've read on motortrend, the ecu is very overprotective and has a tendency to cut power when u rev very near or beyond redline.

I ditched the tib for an evo, where else would I go? hah
I'm curious to know what software they are using. I perhaps since it shares a world engine with mitsu and crew they might be able to use the same stuff they are using on the 4B11?

I was checking these out down at the dealership, I bet they will have some potential, as for me might wait a while and then get one at half price
Then take that money and buy stuff
