Expected bolt on awhp?
Expected bolt on awhp?
2006 EVO IX with:
catless TBE
CAI
fuel pump
injectors
tuned on E85
xxx hp/xxx tq?
How much would IC and lower/upper kits add to the above list?
xxx hp/xxx tq?
How much would then adding cams add?
xxx hp/xxx tq?
Yes I know there are tons of variables, but using the AMS dyno and the generally requested cams, etc.

Unfortunately every car is different when it comes down to making power as we have seen here at the shop. I would not want to promise or quote any numbers for a setup like that especially using E85. I would look around in the dyno results section to search for a similar setup to yours to get an idea for what your car should be around hp wise. Searching the tuning and dyno sections is definitely your best option for finding an answer to these questions.

In the end its just a number. The car will feel very quick with those mods and a tune from AMS.
Thanks Boltz. I did search the dyno forums and there is a TON of info there. I didn't have time to read the 20 pages (at work...shhhh) and was looking for a quick figure, I don't plan on holding anybody to it. I have a buddy with an 08 wrx and we were just discussing basic bolt ons and gains.
I figured this was a pretty standard upgrade path seen weekly at AMS so thought there would be history to make tried and true data. That said, I completely understand the hesitation to quote numbers given the variables that would likely result in, 'but that thread at evom said I would make xyz hp'.
Thanks again!

In my opinion, cams are much less important in an IX than in an VIII. Here is what I suggest.
Do a 3" TBE, intake, fuel pump, injectors, and an E85 tune. This is THE most cost effective set of mods you can do on any EVO. You may very well be extremely happy with this level...perhaps 350whp.
From this point on, the cost of each incremental whp increases considerably.
Pipes add very little...cams add some, but the cost is high. Some people prefer not to even open the motor if not necessary.

I am going to add my .02 anyways.....
Effective power upgrades that will net some decent gains would be to add
a. ported stock intake manifold
b. ported manifold
Buschur does these for pretty cheap and if your stick with a stock framed turbo they will continue to make power!
If you wanna go for mid range to peak power add - also great if you upgrade to any type of a turbo especially once you go to a 30R or bigger
a. Ams Vsr F1 intake manifold
I had an evo 8 but if you go through AMS staged upgrades, my car put down about 375ish with crappy hks 272 cams and the vsr intake manifold on the stock evo 8 turbo. If you add GSC2 cams to the mix, you will certainly make more than 15 whp however you might wanna/may have to upgrade your springs n retainers while you are in there.
from an upgrade path depending on what you are going to do with the car could be very very different.
I will say that from experience after fully building my car, I would do everything 100% differently!
Here is what I will do with my next evo
1. weight reduction parts - AMS carbon Fiber roof, suspension parts, light weight rims, get ride of the spare tire and tools, etc. etc. I would love to knock off 300-500 lbs off of an evo and maintain a stock appearing car without being all hacked together. Weight is always the #1 place to make a car faster
2. an AMS 2.3 stroker motor, my most favorite mod that i did to my car, it changed my car COMPLETLY. I loved the torque I gained with the car, the low end is just sick.
3. then learn how to drive the car the way it should be. the driver mod is the best mod you will ever do.
Then after i get bored start doing the normal mod process but for sure the stroker is the first thing coming next round....
