9 To be Canada's Lucky Number?
With the upcoming Evo IX, Mitsubishi may have already reconfigured the front crash zones to meet Canadian standards. It's nothing more than a new bumper beam and rebar. In fact, the new front bumper cover is probably hiding a new structure underneath.
On the other hand, Mitsubishi has to consider many more issues when importing the next Evo in Canada. Due to on-going financial troubles, it may not be cost effective to launch a complete campaign (including national advertisement, dealership training, technical support, etc) on a model that will sell merely hundreds per year. In other words, they may end up losing money by selling the car.
Nevertheless, I hope Mitsubishi will make the decision in favor of the customers. I will for sure trade-in my US-spec Evo 8 for a CDN-spec Evo 9. Running Canadian plates can save me much trouble when pulled over in the states. hahaha.

Well... I just got back from the Montreal International Auto Show. I was able to obtain the following statement from one of Mitubishi's representatives there:
"The EVO will be sold in Canada, it will be the EVO IX, model year 2007 and should be available in mid to late 2006."
Now, use your own judgement in deciding wheter you think this is solid info or not... I sure cannot offer any guaranty.
I was also told by the same guy that the Galant lineup will boast a new RalliArt trim level... which should have pretty much the same specs and equipment as the prototype that was unveiled last fall.

Finally what appears to be some good news for Canadians and maybe our last chance to own a 4G63 with or without MIVEC

Well... as I said, you have to decide for yourself if you wanna put that much faith in what I was told by the Mitsubishi rep. I'm only about 75% confident that this is in fact reliable info.
But I agree with you it's the best thing I've heard in a while... which in turn might account for 25% of my confidence in the info!

I really, really doubt that Canada will see the Evo 9 because the structural changes needed to meet saftey standards in Canada were not made....more than $1000 damage will occur from an 8 km/hr front impact....this is not only from the fmic (close to $1000 right there), but also the HID lights that come with the Evo will run a couple grand
the SRT-4 was allowed to keep the fmic because they used a small one in the Canadian market and placed it below the major impact point in front end collision
around when the Evo 8 came out my friend Chris, who works for Mitsubishi Motors Canada, said that the Evo probably won't come to Canada until Mitsu goes through it's next major platform overhaul of the Lancer Evo (which is typically every 3 models)....so the Evo X is the next big change and Mitsu is considering switching to a tmic, and since some states are banning HID's in factory cars starting 2006, Mitsu will drop HID lights in their North American cars...that info from the AutoShow about the Evo coming to Canada in 2007 sounds about right, but it should read the Evo X not IX
at the Toronto Autoshow last year, I asked about the Evo and I was told that Canada is too small a market, and it would cost more for Mitsu to design, build, promote, and sell the Evo here than they would make from selling it....I never realized how small the 'new car' market is in Canada....we rank after some African countries, which is quite sad

Somebody ever consider lobbying the Federal Government to revoke that bloody 8km bumper law - talking about non-tariff trade barriers. I guess we should all be talking to our MP's so the IX can be imported here even if they don't bring it here officially.

if Subaru did so badly in sales with the STi.......how come they sold every unit they imported to Canada? maybe Mitsu would do the same if they marketed their car here too. guess we'll have to wait and see.
