It means that you have a warranty through Mitsubishi America. The same exact thing occurred with imported STIs and I suspect that you'll receive the same treatment namely you'll have to pay for repairs and Mitsubishi America will reimburse you.

Was just on the horn with a couple of dealerships in Buffalo. I was talking to their Canadian car salesperson and he quoted me a price of 33800 OTR for a GSR with the SSS package. I thought great! Email me the numbers and I'll probably put a deposit. He also said of there was any warranty work to just bring it back to them. So I go home and get the email and it says since the car is new I'd have to pay Buffalo sales tax to get a new one(smells fishy). Not sure why he did not mention this at first since he was the "Salesperson for Canada". I emailed back saying that the price difference would not make it worth my while to drive down there. Will see what he says next. I think he was trying to make a quick cash grab as he could see I was very interested.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy one from southcoast and get it shipped? That way you'd avoid the sales tax.

Yes it would be cheaper if they'll sell me one. Emailed them but have not herd back. Also not sure about warranty work. The places in Buffalo said I'd have to bring the car back to the dealership I purchased the car from.

i hope you guys know that you will have to pay other fees once you cross the border. To have your car shipped from LA to here would be about $1200 - $1500 USD by rail, plus then you have RIV fees, 6.1% duty, GST+ PST, A/C tax, etc. Plus the exchange rate as well.

I think if you guys wait, I'm sure the Canadian prices will go down. Look at what Toyota did.

Yes shipping will be about 1800 CAD. Once you work in all the taxes and duty the price diff would be about 7-8K but if you work in the SSS that you can't get here then the diff woulod be closer to 10K. Is it worth it???? Not sure, still debating with myself.

Hey chinkster, Do you live or work in Oakville? Saw a WW Evo parked close to my work?

We'll just got off the phone with john for Southcoast. He said that they'll sell to Canucks for the same price as the people south of here. So a GSR with SSS package is 31,799 pluse 55 admin. So if you work out the numbers 31, 1799+55+1943(duty)+1800(shipping)+4393(GST+PST)=$3 9,990 Plus all the small little fees approx 500. If you want you can pay a broker to bring it over and drive it to your house and do all the paper work for about $750.

Canadian price 41,499+1500(freight and PDI)+500(air and other taxes)=$49,155(including tax)

Difference is about $9K but you get SSS with the US car.

What do you guys think??

I'd say go with the Southcoast car. You save $9000 and you get the SSS package.
This import car calculator is quite helpful when searching for cars in the U.S.

saving 9k is worth it imo. if you were saving only 4-5k i would say just get one in canada, as you need to take into accountthe warranty, and the lower resale value of american cars on canadian soil. this can be ignored though if you plan on keeping the car for a while.

imagine the upgrades you can get with 9k!!!

Can't say I blame you for thinking like that, as it is only fair and just, but this says otherwise
