Canada guys, need your advice!
Hey guys
I've recently found a bargain on a car I've been interested in purchasing but the car is located in Canada. Calgary to be specific.
Flying over there doesn't seem to be a problem, and not terribly expensive (around $250 I've seen online)
However, I have a bunch of questions regarding
- Title and registration, how does that work between US and Canada?
I hear Canada is more strict, so bringing a car from Canada into US shouldn't a problem
- Driving between Calgary back to Illinois
I hear it is impossible to drive. A lot of bordertowns close up in November, have to drive through Montana and the weather will make it impossible (will be doing this around December)
Do you guys have any tips/suggestions? On how to do it, not that I should look elsewhere lol
Cheers

Haha haven't decided yet for sure. Just trying to figure out if registration and everything will work out. And crossing the border, etc. How is the weather there? You think itll be bad mid December? I'm gonna have to drive 1500 miles back with the car

I've imported a car before. First you need to see if the car is allowed to be imported to the us for emissions reasons. Then, the car will need to sit at US customs for I believe 72 hours before you can take it. Then all you will need to do is have it inspected in the US, then pay tax and registration.
have you been watching initial D...is that why u want the AE 86? =)
p.s. i think you can keep the registration and stuff canadian until u get back home then swap it to US.
cuz when one of my relative brought his TL over from the states he had the US plates and everything for about a month before he switched it to canadian. i mean your car will still be legal to drive in the US even if it was registered in canada (think of the people visiting the US driving from canada).

Haha I have seen initial D bu that's not why (or at least the only reason why =]) I want the car. Like aby said, yea there's really not a lot of lightweight rwd's out there. I have looked at miatas and such but I don't think a miata is for me.
I've got a pretty good deal on it, I'm just trying to factor in the deal + the difficulty/costs of bringing a Canadian car to the US.
