When To Get My First Oil Change?

I was told by friends that for a new car you need to get the first oil change before the recommended time. I am currently at 1800 kms in 2 months.

I called the dealership and they said NOT to get the oil change before 6000kms due to additives in the oil they add at the start. They also said the time doesnt matter for the first one, but only the 6000 kms.

Is this correct. Do i wait till 6000kms to get my first oil change? even if it takes another 6 months to hit 6000 kms?

ALSO******

AFter this first oil change when do you go for regular oil changes? Every 3 months or 3000kms?

thanks for the info....

it will only beep if the mitsu tech sets the reminder to beep. they don't always set it so i wouldn't rely on that.

normally when you do your change the will put a sticker telling you month or kms, which ever comes first. typically for first change do after 5k then second at 10k then after that they use the 10k synthetic oil which your supposed to get changed every 10k but i still rely on my old standings of keeping an engine clean and changing every 6k, but thats your call.Plus follow your service manual to find out at what kms its recommended to see your dealer for service.

Ah, mine has beeped every 3 months since I've had it. Guess they always set it.
5W-20 oil is what's been in mine since I've had it (forget which brand though... Castrol ?)

when i first bought my car the dealership oil change was $28 or so..
then it was $35 or so..
now its $43 ?????

I do my own oil changes.. it may be a dirty job but it beats getting raped by the dealership.

Premium Oil on sale is around $10 - 12 a jug. (Synthetic $18 - $22 on sale)
Oil filter is between $0 - $6 depending on a promotion or sale. (sometimes its free with a jug of oil.)

Exactly, it should only cost you about $15 to do your own oil change. Its the only way i would go too

Have u checked ur manual? I've been going with the manual since I had the car. I just did my 90,000 mile service. Not saying the service writers don't know what there talking about but reading the manual arms u with information. That's where I would start.

Most times i hear that the first oil change should be done much later than usual due to break in additives in factory oil. From what i remember they asked me to wait 6,000 - 7,000 km for my first oil change.
