I did this on both of my eclipse's the drl box was on the passenger side kick panel, you pull out a board and no more day time runners. Im guessing that there is the same type of thing in the new lancers, i too dislike day time runnres but be warned take your car in for a checkup and the dealer will lose it on your ***, and so will any ******** cop

I'm only going to wire up a toggle switich. 95% of the time they will still be running.
Graeme was nice enough to fax me a copy of the wiring diagrams. Maybe today I'll get my digicam out and document how to do it. Then i'll make a new thread that the moderators can stick for all to see.

I can't find it in my car. The only place I haven't checked is behind the left front fender.
There is a connector that goes to this DRL ECU that would be super easy to pull/by-pass, but I can't find it. The diagrams I have are for an 03 Lancer, so its possible the 04 is built right into the main ECU. From what I've seen of 03s I don't think this is the case though. They all look the same.
Just waiting for a chance to go over to Mitsu and ask them.

For the canadian lancers .. i believe it is in the drivers side below the headlamp unit, the place where you would have the end of your Cold Air Intake.
snip the wires
Don't quote me on this.. but .. ya

all i have to say to this thread is WHY! Why yould you want to disconnect a safty feature like that. Im tired of seeing people drive in the fog with no lights on at least this will partly help those tards out. I personally drive with my lights on all the time. Why? cause i want ouher cars to se me more. THere are two ways of looking at it:
If your lights are off and someone starts loosing control they wont focus on you and therefore have less chance of being in an accident.
or 2 - if your lights are on then people will see you easier and in turn will not pull out infront of you, cut you off or anything else (as often)
I figure that since every car isnt loosign control i play the odds and leave my lights on.
If your doing it for presintation purposes then simply turn your car off when its sitting at the local timmy's or whatever.

Danno, this question has been left unanswered because so many people like yourself go off on another tangent. It’s a simple problem, the reasons for doing/not doing it are not required, nor are safety lectures.
jtc, I have the parts of the 03 Lancer shop manual here and have been going over them like crazy. The DRL ECU seems to have a 6-pin socket that acts like a bypass for the headlights. If it was unplugged the whole system would fail to work. I believe it was the white wire that could be spliced with a toggle switch to control them.
The 04 manual would be my holy grail

some of us DO drive with the lights on all the time
but sometimes we want to just have the markers lights on (at meets, etc) but we CAN'T
so we want to do this mod to fix that problem
so don't start with the safety lessons
