AP Loads Map. Cant data log.

AP Loads Map. Cant data log.
Hey guys.
I got an old AP from my buddy with an 08 X, that I am trying to put on my 12 X as they said it would work for my year. I couldn't find a part number of the box or device so I am not sure what version AP it is. Its older than the one on the cobb page because the end of the AP does not have the piece protruding from the device.
I can get the maps loaded on my car just fine, but when I go to data log it says that its not connected to my ECU or something along those lines. I cant remember.
Do you think the cable is bad or the ODB2 connector?
