Repetitive Knock Stage 1 Cobb AP

Hey there fellow Evo drivers, I was hoping I could get some advice on my Data Logs. I feel like the knock is too repetitive and it looks the same on all runs. I will attach two data logs, I hope this is the right place to get the advice I need.

To those who can't open the files, basically when I'm doing 3rd gear pulls, from 2000rpm-7000rpm I'm seeing consistent and repetitive knock, usually 1-2 and sometimes there are 3's and 4's. It looks like 2400-3500rpm 11111111,2222222,1111 but from 5800-7000 It looks like this, 22222,111111,222,11111111,4444,33333333,22222222

Sorry I didn't count those exactly, but that's very close to what I'm getting. out of 5 logs I did today, this one was the worse, and the only one to hit 4 knock.

Any help will be appreciated, I'm getting a little worried

My mods are, Cobb Test Pipe and CBE with HKS high flow filter, Cobb OTS tune stage 1+ 93 octane CHFF

I would say most obvious is you need to be stage 2 with test pipe/HFC.

I was on stage 2 and the car drove a lot better, I loved it! I drove the car for a few hours and did some data logs and went home to check them out, and I noticed the same kind of knock at the same RPMs it never hit 4, and rarely 3. I went back to stage 1 and now it's worse. I had knock before I went to stage 2 for those few hours, but it was never this bad...

edit: and by bad I mean the knock was never this repetitive

Typically a Stage 2 map would require the use of an aftermarket downpipe as well as the testpipe and catback due to heat concerns. Do you happen to have the original .csv file instead of it saved as a PDF? It is usually easier to review logs in that format. If you want, feel free to take a 3rd gear log with Stage 1 and Stage 2 maps flashed and the default log list selected, and upload them as a csv. I will be more than happy to review them and point you in the right direction.

Nothing more to add but love the fact that Cobb does this. Keeps an eye on the forums to help out.

I'm on a bit of a Cobb high right now. I bricked my ECU during AP reflash and they fixed it for free and included overnight return shipping. lol

Thanks Eric. I will have to wait for the weather here in Calgary to get warmer and I will do a few stage 1 and stage 2 pulls and post them here. Hopefully tomorrow or the day the after. Thanks for your help again!

BTW I plan on getting the Cobb dp to finish off my Cobb exhaust, I only waited this long because i was under the impression that a shorty DP did nothing and that I should go for a DP O2 housing combo piece. But F that noise, I'm sticking with Cobb and their recommendations.

The issue with the shorty DP is it does not make power, but the stock piece can apparently retain a lot of heat and cause issues.

I run OTS Stage 3 with full MAP turbo back and AEM intake (properly scaled) but a Cobb EBCS. I get 1-2 knock counts every once in a while with WOT AFRs in the 12.8 range. The OTS maps are pretty solid as long as you use the right stage to your mods, log AFRs and keep an eye on knock. 27psi too!

The O2 housing combo downpipes are nice pieces for sure and I don't think you can go wrong with our downpipe or a well designed combo piece from a reputable company. The issue with the stock downpipe is that it is more restrictive than the aftermarket units which can cause heat to build up and cause the car to knock. This is why we recommend a full turbo back with our Stage 2 and 3 maps.

Hey Eric, I tried to upload the .csv but this site doesn't let me attach that type of file. Is there another way I could send you the logs?

Go ahead and send the file to mitsubishi.experts@cobbtuning.com with a description of the issue you are having as well as your mods list. This will go to all of the Mitsubishi experts group and we can take a look at them more closely for you.
