Launching an Automatic?

Who here is running an automatic Lancer on the strip? I want to know the best way to launch and if I should be shifting through the gears myself...I have run the 1/8 @ 10.4 with nothing but my cat-back exhaust...

Run a search for "auto launching techniques" or something quite similar. Been covered before.

theres a thread about it!
i personally suggest that just put in 3rd..and power brake! to launch..press down brake, and frimly press the gas...
let go the brake...slam the gas all the way..then u will get a little of burnouts and it will launch faster!

Do not manually shift an auto tranny. It's worthless and inefficient. You may actually lose a min of .3 sec on your final ETA. It just makes it sounds fast but not really doing anything. Remember there is no power bouncing redline.

Leaving it in 3rd is futile too. Once you hit +60 mph, your car will run out of gears and effective powerband to stretch its speed. Logic: how fast is a standard 3 spd auto neon compared to a 4 spd neon. Basically, don't handicap yourself.

BTW: DO NOT do "N" drop. It's the best way to trash an auto tranny by 50K miles.

yep... damn right... i have an auto, and all i can say is that doing the L-2-3-D isn't the smartest way to achieving the best launch... instead just put it in D and do what they say..... firmly pressing the gas while also pressing on the brakes..... and don't feel bad bout having an auto... it's all bout the driver anyway, actually i have beaten civic ex's... actually three of em... one of those was my friend's, and guess what, he's driving manual.... hahaha

As for power braking, do it with moderation.

If you hold it too long, you'll starve the TQ converter of its fluid. When you want go, a starved TQ will be a mess to repair. Just like shifting a manual w/o its fluid. Well, at least a manual, you can grind gears, but auto tranny will slip like heck.
