How does the launch control actually work?

I don't really know much about the SST tranny. On many automatics they will have a launch control type feature where it just engages reverse and first gear which effectively locks the tranny. Then you spool up the turbo and when you release the switch it disengages reverse and you launch forward. Puts an insane amount of heat into the torque converter on high powered cars but works pretty well.

I'm curious if the feature is the same on the EvoX MR. Also, has anyone located where the settings are in the rom and if enabling such a feature on the '09 ralliart would be difficult?

Since the MR is really an automated manual, I would assume that with launch control, it leaves the car in neutral as it revs and builds boost, then quickly shifts into first gear and slips the clutches like you would when driving a manual yourself. I could be completely wrong though

What you described is a transmission brake which is usually used on drag cars. On a normal street car, you'll hold the brake with your left foot and the gas with your right while in gear and the engine will only rev as high as the stall rating on the torque converter.

With that said, the MR's SST transmission doesn't have a torque converter since it's an automated manual with 2 clutches. As LaXGSR just said, when you hold the brake and gas together to launch, I would assume it disengages its own clutch and then quickly slips and engages the clutch when you let off the brake pedal.

Yes, you're right trans-brake I couldn't remember the name of the fool thing. I don't work on too many girls cars... I mean automatics.

So on to the ralliart, is that option available but disabled somewhere in the ROM?

I don't think there's an actual launch control feature on the Ralliart, since in the Evo you can only use the launch control in S-Sport mode, which the Ralliart doesn't have.

I wonder if the sport mode is in the rom code or if it's entirely missing. has anyone ever tried running a ralliart off the evox firmware?

The GSR has launch control from the factory. Your use of the term 2step is unclear, but the car has the ability to launch from the factory (as indicated by tons of threads and the simple ability to make an attempt at it or look at your ROM).
