Powershifting vs Regular Shift???...

Does anyone know about what kind of difference in times your looking at with powershifting compared to just shifting normal while drag racing?? The reason I ask is my car will not powershift anymore and has a hard time going in gear while drag racing just shifting normally. When it was new it would PS without missing a beat now...no chance. I dont beat my car. Ive only had it on the track once and did a few street races with it. The tranny is just getting worse and worse. So Im just wondering when I do race it. How much is not being able to PS costing me as far as time?? Has anybody did back to back runs to compare?? Thanks

In my experience, about 2 tenths and one mph is gained from hitting each get throttle down and FAST compared to what I consider normal shifting.

powershifting 1-2 only affects the ET the most and pretty much nothing for mph.

the 3-4 changes the mph the most and has the least effect on ET.

Check your clutch pedal adjustment, if the clutch is not disengaging all the way it will make the shifting very hard. could be a 5 minute fix.

It sounds like your syncros. Is it 3rd gear? I had a problem with mine. I took it to Union Mitsubishi in DownTown Los Angles, They replace the 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear syncro and the throw out bearing under warrenty. In fack the service manger was so cool he even asked me if I wanted to replace the clutch since the tranny was out. All I had to do was buy the parts. So essencially I got new syncros and an brand new clutch for about $350. Man if any of you guys live in LA area I suggest going to Union Mitsubishi to get your work done.

Even though I work there they have done this for 6 other customers.

I hope the dealers in Florida will be able to do the some for you EVO32570. But you should get it checked on ASAP

I dont think its the syncros because there is no grinding. It just wont go into gear and I miss the shift everytime. Mostly 1-2 and 2-3. No its just to the point I dont PS anymore and Im still having problems with 1-2,2-3. No grinding though. I will get it checked out. Hopefully its just the clutch needing some adjustment.

if there is no grinding and it just feels like the trans is "blocking you out" and it won't go into gear, chances are the clutch adjustment is out. takes a 10mm wrench to break loose the locknut on the clutch slave cyl under the dash. you should be able to turn the adjustment with your fingers.

ususally when the syncro's are shot you get a grinding sound and the shifter feels like it kinda goes into gear.

i would imagine it is more than .2 of a difference.? there is a fair amount of lag once you lift to switch and then get back on it. I know powershifting my 2003 cobra made about a .5 second difference due to the same thing..... the supercharger would go off boost when switching if you didnt keep the gas at least to 3/4 throttle when shifting.

I only see 2 tenths at most between what I consider normal fast shifts, vs leaving the throttle down. The stock turbo spools up FAST at 5500rpm, I don't feel that's much of an issue.
