Drag Times with new Headers

Hello I finally said to hell with it and went to test to see what improvements my RPW headers gave me over stock.

My previous best time was 17.267 here is the rest of that slip.

R/T - .931--60'-2.568--330, 7.210--1/8th 11.076--1/4MPH, 78.86

I ran 3 times tonight before I had to leave. First a Camaro then a Spec V and then I ran by myself.

Here are the slips. Fastest to slowest
R/t,.787--60' 2.437--330,7.020--1/8th10.819--1000,14.091--1/4,16.878@80.55mph

R/t,.714--60'2.569--330,7.232--1/8th11.080--1000,14.377--1/4,17.176@80.23mph

R/t,.896--60'2.667--330,7.331--1/8th11.182--1000,14.492--1/4,17.318@79.56mph

I can't seem to get any grip on stock tires at the track. I leave traffic lights better than I grip at the track. Any suggestions?

All I have now are the headers, K&N replacement filter and a performance muffler on end. ( stock piping)

I am wondering what kind of times I need to run to be competitive? high 15's? I only plan on a few more mods like camshaft, intake, rims and springs.

oh BTW I know I can do better. This was with nearly a full tank of gas and my spare tire and jack in back. Maybe next time I will even take out the rear seat. My previous was with less than 3/4 tank ( probably closer to half full)

feel free to post your time slips.

the spec V I ran tonight ran his best time of 15.367 and the Camaro I ran was 14.122. What track are you running at and can you give us some other cars you ran also as a comparison? I ran at Orlando Speedway.

Thanks

what were your 60' times looking like? Just wondering since your turbo set up only worsens the traction problem.

Can someone tell me if this is theoretically right? I have been thinking about the shift points during drag racing and it was said before that on a stock Lancer it was best to shift before 5500rpm when hp began to decline.

My question is "with headers or any modification would the shift point change?" (Go Up or down in the rpm range) Would I need to Dyno to see where exactly it is?

not really sure. i usually shift at 6100 although never at a track. i'm not sure if you should shift that early (5500). even though hp may begin to decline it's probably still higher than at 4000-4500 where you start in the next gear. i think it would make since to ride it out then shift. no real basis for info, just personal experience. don't kill me if i'm wrong, i'm just trying to help.

Ok cool

Well I already tried shifting at 6K and my times were slower stock. I was wondering if the power band would change significantly enough with modifications to necessitate shifting at different points.

This is why dynos are useful.

OK thank you StreetLancer. I want to get the most out of the money I have invested so I guess I'll Dyno and find out. Plus I am sure we need some other N/A DYno charts out there to compare to the dismal ones of late. I think I can get it done late February after my 30K service.

Peace

It looks like you need to work on your launch with less tire spin. If you can pull a 60' of 2.2 or 2.3, you'll see a change on your timeslip. Normally, different conditions on the track can also vary. Some can be slippery and very hard to launch at especially on street tires.

Nonetheless, those are nice times but it could've been better.

Thanks DB8 for the encouragement

I am working toward improvement slowly but surely and yes if I could get a little bite off the line I should see great improvement in my times. Looking into some rims but weight is an issue that would offset the increased grip.

WADADLIG_OZ,

Sorry, haven't been on the board lately. Your biggest thing is 60' times.

Knocking off .1 sec will grant you .1-.3 off ETA.

NA should average around 2.4 sec. To get below it, you must push at least 160-180 hp at flywheel.

For tires, wait till your tires get bald. go to tirerack.com and search for the same size tires with better grip. Almost must find a time close to the original revolution.

I'm using Dunlops for tires. Best grip overall in all weather.
