Cap, MIR, and Mason Dixon.

Only got one run at MIR (12.34@110.7)

Today in the heat at Mason Dixon, I've run

12.33@108.79 1.75 60' & 4th rev limiter
12.32@101.61 1.72 60' & missed 5th
12.34@110.62 1.78 60' & 4th rev limiter

12.2s are just sitting there calling my name (they call me their bltch).

Congratulations! I found out about the timing issues when I was tuning my Talon several years ago. My Evo is about the same on how it acts in the quarter mile if the timing is too low, especially when tuning on 91 octane. The times you ran are great .

Well, I just tried going to 5th around 6900 in 4th, but it didn't help. That shift is soooooo slow...

The result: 12.34@105.96 1.74 60' (5 runs in a row 12.32-12.34)

Down to last 5 in bracket...

12.22@109.19 1.75 60'

Last resort worked. I let off in 4th slightly before redline (7500rpm) and just held it there so I wouldn't hit the rev limiter and subsequent fuel cut.

1/8th - 7.80@88.69

Still hot as hell, but the sun is about to duck under the horizon.

Nice times man, put a downpipe and testpipe on there and you should be creeping on 11's. A reflash from the tuner of your choice will also help because they raise the stock rev limiter to get rid of the problem of hitting it in 4th before the traps, not to mention the removal of fuel cut and the timing increase you will get. Cams would put you solidly in the 11's, good luck, im hoping to get there soon myself

Won the event, got some cash, a trophy and a free pass to the next one.

Last run backed up my previous best:

12.24@110.6 1.72 60'

Don't let the 109 mph fool you from earlier. I held the rpms at 7400-7500 for the last half second or so to stay away from redline. It would have been 111+ with another 200 rpm.

how are you advancing your timing? What boost were you running on 104 mix? Would you say the MR transmission is hindering you or helping you, vs. the 5spd?

Those are AWESOME times for the mods. You keep impressing me every time you report your new numbers.

Great job

My GSR is jealous because I can't drive it well enough to get those same times

Advancing timing by tuning with the S-AFC. Timing advances naturally according to the ecu's timing maps when there is little-to-no knock. The 104/93 oct mix allowed me to lean out more than usual and achieve a a really nice, linear timing curve. Boost was originally peaking at 22psi in 4th with a very slight taper to 21psi steady.

6spd is incredible for the 1/8th as I got 7.80 and a max of 89.5mph, but then it hinders me at the top of 4th when I hit the rev limiter at 111mph.

Your MR with the 6 speed transmission definitely has an advantage with the torque manipulation over the 5 speeds. Your 1/8 mile times are great. Like you said before, if you could extend your RPM limit a little higher, you'll achive that higher trap speed. You're 6 speed may actually be the perfect set up for the 1/4 mile.

I'm confused. Doesn't SAFC only control a/f ratios? What timing curve are you talking about?

Are you saying that just putting in higher octane will cause the ECU to increase timing? How long does it take to advance timing?

When you lean out your A/F ratios with the SAFC, the ECU compenates by advancing the timing if senses little or no knock.

Yes, the S-AFC only DIRECTLY controls the A/F ratios, but it INDIRECTLY affects timing by optimizing the AFR, which leads to less knock, which leads to advanced timing. Since the car behaves differently in different conditions (temp, humidity, octane, boost), I can't just tune the AFR, but rather tune for timing. If my logger shows me that my AFR is good, but that my timing is flat (or being pulled), then I know I need to adjust AWAY from what I would normally think is a good AFR until I find the sweet spot. This weekend, that entailed RICHENING to a LOWER AFR until my ECU starting advancing the timing again to give back power. For a while I was running 12.6x@106mph and couldn't figure out why. Once I started adding fuel back, my mph started climbing. After that, I threw in a few gallons of 104 and was able to optimize it even further. The 104/93 oct mix allowed me to lean out more and still get a nice timing curve. The combination of good AFRs and nicely advanced timing resulted in an EXPLOSION of power that led to my 12.34 last night.

I went on today to run 7 out of 9 between 12.22-12.34. I had a 12.71 and a 12.46, but both were with missed 4th gear shifts. The rest were extremely consistent and only varied with 60' for the most part.
