Ok, here we go.

1) Learn to launch. It was your first time with an AWD, so don't sweat it. It is NOT EASY to properly launch an AWD car. I have over 500 total passes in AWD cars, and although I'm pretty good at it now, I still don't get it right every time. 5500rpm is a good launch point, but you still have to do it right. First, you don't want to dump it, so don't do that. At 5500, the way to do it is to slowly start to let the clutch out, and right as it starts to grab and roll the tires, then you hammer the throttle while side-stepping the clutch. This method requires a slight slip at the beginning, but it saves your drivetrain from major shock each time.

2) Shifting. You said you're shifting at 7k, but you're probably not exactly sure. Be sure that you are shifting AFTER 7k, but before 7500...somewhere around 7200-7300. Although power starts to drop off above 7k, you still make GOOD power at this point, and when you shift, you will be at a higher RPM in the next gear...right in the sweet spot. If done properly, then you will require almost no re-spool time in the next gear, and it will just be 99% full boost all the way down the track. Just one missed or botched shift will totally kill your ET/MPH. Be sure to shift as quickly as possible and just above 7k

3) Conditions - elevation, heat, humidity, octane. All of these are working against you at LACR, so you should expect lower times than the rest of the country where there is 93oct with lower temps and elevation. Your best bet is to compare with other stock Evos at the same track...preferably, find someone who is WELL-KNOWN for being able to dirve incredibly well. Using that person's times as a baseline, you will then know how far you still have to go to get to normal.

4) MPH vs 60' time. Ok, the 60' is the most important part of drag racing. This can have a major affect on your timeslips. Typically, any change in 60' is COMPOUNDED through the rest of the timeslip. If you go from a 2.3 60' to a 1.8 60', you won't just get .5s faster in the 1/4. You will likely get .7-.9s faster with a significant increase in mph. In the end, though, no matter how good your 60' and shifting are, you STILL need to make power. Your power is indicated by the trap speed - 89mph just isn't cutting it. Despite the limitations listed earlier, 89 is atrocious. I have hit 89mph in the 1/8th-mile...with better conditions and with mods, of course, but still. At no point in time should my mild mods hit the 1/8th-mile with the same speed you hit the 1/4-mile.

If you can, definitely do a pressure test on your system to ensure that your boost is holding the stock levels (19psi spike, 16psi by redline).

You might also play around with your shift points because I actually ran faster shifting at 6900-7000rpm then at 7200-7300rpm. Also like Warrtalon said practice your launches, not only is that the hardest part of drag racing an AWD car it is also the most critical part of getting a good time. Good luck and have fun!!

Hey supravital, I was at LACR last Friday. The heat and the elevation makes that track hard to beat. Did you run on 91 octane or did you run on race gas? I always had to lean out my car in order to get some what decent times at that track. Since your Evo is stock, you are already running rich and at that elevation it makes your car even run worse. A lot of stock Evos I've seen run in the 15's up there. Your launching RPM's seem fine, but you need to get those 60 foot times down. I was doing 1.80 60 foots when I was out there last week. When my Evo was stock, it liked 7,000 RPM shifts. I didn't trap any higher when I shifted higher or lower than 7,000. If you want to get better ET's for now, check out the Drags at Fontana next Saturday. That track is at the 1,000 foot level and I trap about 2 to 3 MPH better at Fontana. The heat will still be bad, but you'll run a better time due to the lower elevation. I'll be there to see if I could dip well into the 12's on 91 octane with my water injection.
