Post First time at the track

Hi,

I raced yesterday my 05 Evo for the first time. Actually, I’m new at drag-racing: my 60' times will corroborate that
I went first to Capitol Raceway at Crofton, MD, just 10 miles from where I’m staying, but the unexpected happened: the owner of the track had a heart attack the same morning and they closed the track for the entire weekend, but since I was really committed to run my car that night, I decided to hustle for the nearest track, and my faithful friend Google pointed towards Cecil County Dragway at Rising Sun, MD. I got there 2 hours later but the place was packed, and at the end I was only able to run my car 3 times, but it was worth it. Weather conditions were just perfect: 37 degrees and pretty low humidity. I didn’t bring any helmet with me since I’m not familiar with NHRA policies (13.99 and faster requires the use of a helmet ), but I was able to squeeze my car three times without bringing much attention…my car is a total sleeper: conservative apex silver, no fast n furious stickers, original suspension, skinny snow tires (yes you heard right)…just the annoying loud exhaust was drawing some looks from the crowd.
Anyways…the overall experience was a total blast, very addictive and "comforting", specially after beating that Turboed Chevy El Camino with huge slicks, 65 gages and a sticker showing a kid pi**ing over the legend “imports”. it was PRICELESS to see his face after the run. I made sure he saw mine.

So this is how it went:

First Run: Bad launch (4,0k rpms), tires smoking all the way through second gear, changed gears at 7800 rpms and at the end I missed fourth.

60’ 2.196
330 5.642
1/8 8.436
MPH 87.98
1000 10.974
1/4 13.055
MPH 109.32

Second Run: Similar launch, but I did not miss any gears this time. I switched gears at 7600 rpms this time.

60’ 2.080
330 5.453
1/8 8.198
MPH 88.49
1000 10.572
¼ 12.562
MPH 113.69

Third Run: Best launch (5k rpm), no gears missed and switched at 7,5k rpm. That might explain a lower trap speed than the 2nd run.

60’ 1.965
330 5.318
1/8 8.069
MPH 88.49
1000 10.445
¼ 12.439
MPH 113.36

Let me know what u guys think. Yes, I'm aware that with the mods I currently have on the car these times are just average, but hey, give this rookie some credit
Warrtalon: man, you've been doing this for a while, don't u? Your predictions were RIGHT ON: 109s on bad runs and 113s on the good ones. Nevertheless, I'm glad u missed your prediction about me getting into the 12's.
I'll be looking forward to see u at Capitol Dragway someday and get some good advices on how to launch properly.

Cheers!

ps: I'll bring a helmet next week. Wal-Mart sells them pretty cheap and u can always get your $$$ back...or so the add says.

No, I predicted that you wouldn't hit 12.0s. I was sure you'd hit 12s with 109-113mph traps. You performed just as expected.

Very nice trap speed. A little more practice and you will take a couple of tenths off your times.
