03/VIII: 12.69/108 with only MBC & dynoflash

Conditions: mid-60 degree air/Cecil County drag way (sea level track)

My only mods are MBC, dynoflash, PWR radiator and K&N panel filter. Everything else is stock. I removed passenger seat, spare and jack for weight reduction. Also, I set MBC @ 22 psi and added 3 gallons of Sunoco 98 race gas into a 3/4 full tank -not sure if that helped.

My best time:

60'......1.764
330'.....5.233
1/8......8.115
MPH....85.58
1000...10.602
1/4......12.698
MPH.....108.39

After that pass, I felt my (stock) clutch slipping for the first time in its 58,000 mile life. Here are the times for my other passes:

12.922/106.94/1.758

13.273/107.93/2.136 (tried to launch at lower rpm,and bogged hard)

12.932/107.71/1.828

I was planning to take it easy on the launches, but that all went out the window when I saw the tree light up. I have a 150+ passes with my mustang down the track, and my instincts sort of take over when I see the tree lights.

Just thought I'd post this to show what an VIII can do with minimal mods. It was fun, but I sort of regret launching that hard -now I have to start clutch shopping.

Nicejob!!!! It looks like you have a strong car, getting a 10.5 hotside and some cams will wake the car up even more.

Thanks,

I was thinking of exactly those mods, but my exhaust is still stock. I may get a TBE eventually, but do you think I'll see gains with the 10.5 and cams on a stock exhaust?

It wouldn't be a great idea to keep adding mods on the stock exhaust. Even what you are doing now with race gas and raised boost is not a good idea, because the stock exhaust is very restrictive. Running increased boost and additional airflow through it will cause additional excessive knock.

Good job so far, though.

Yeah, at 22psi I think I would spend a couple hundred and get a 3" tbe my freind. 12s is impressive on a basically stock 8. Good work.

Nah, a IX would still go much faster with the same mods. I know people hate to be reminded, but I went 12.22 on a cat-back, mbc, and SAFC. I went 12.8 with just the SAFC on 93oct. A IX could probably go 12-flat with the stock exhaust.

A Dynoflash customer in WA went 12.5@109 with mbc, intake, and flash on 93oct. Imagine on race gas with cranked boost!

Regardless, Tony did better than a lot of people with way more mods.
